Crateri #1 Vase by Andrea Anastasio

An object of both function and fascination—defying easy classification—Crateri #1 Vase is a poetic expression of artist-designer Andrea Anastasio’s material research, extensive world travel, and profound observations about the nature of life in the 21st century. We have our collective eye on Anastasio. He’s unlike any designer we’ve met before. Born in Rome, he currently divides his time between Naples, India, and wherever chance leads him. Always searching for deeper, hidden meanings and authentic expressions of the “self;” he’s made his name as an artist, an academic, a philosopher, an industrial designer—a commercially successful one at that, particularly with his Giocasta lighting collection for Artemide—and an advocate for regional craft production. Not for nothing was the late, great Ettore Sottsass an admirer and mentor. These days, Anastasio is creating objects that may not be easy to define, but that have a beauty and a presence that can’t be ignored. Unveiled last April in Milan in an exhibition entitled Checkpoint, Anastasio’s Crateri #1 is an unexpected assemblage: a hand-blown borosilicate glass vase filled with plastic shopping bags from around the world. The result collides local and global, treasure and trash, art and consumerism. And if for some reason the symbolism doesn’t float your boat, we’re sure you’ll be blown away by how incredibly cool your flowers will look in this fully functional vase. L´ArcoBaleno is also offering Anastasio´s Crateri #2 Vase.
