Rock Around The Clock-50 Greatest
Bill Haley wurde am 06.07.1925 in Michigan geboren. Mit 15 Jahren verließ er sein Elternhaus und schloß sich als Gitarrist einer Band an. Es folgten Auftritte in Country- &, Western Radioshows. Als "Yodeling Bill Haley" wurde er von einer Radiostation in Indiana zu Amerikas bestem Jodler gewählt. Ende der 40er Jahre nahm Haley einige Platten im Western-Swing-Stil auf. Zu Beginn der 50er Jahre wandte er sich dem Rhythm &, Blues zu und trat fortan als Bill Haley &, His Saddlemen auf. Mit der Zeit entwickelte sich deren Stil über den Rockabilly zum Rock'n'Roll. Ende 1952 änderte die Band den Namen in Bill Haley &, His Comets. Mit "Crazy Man, Crazy" konnten sie sich erstmals in den Nation's Top Twenty-Charts platzieren. Mit dem Wechsel der Plattenfirma kam nun auch der ganz große Erfolg. Mit "Shake Rattle And Roll", "Rock Around The Clock" und "See You Later Alligator" gelangen Bill Haley &, His Comets drei Welthits in Folge und etablierten den Rock'n'Roll als Musikrichtung in der ganzen Welt. "Rock Around The Clock" gehört zu den meistverkauften Singles aller Zeiten. Weitere große Hits folgten in den Jahren 1954-57 mit "Mambo Rock" (1955, D Platz 24, UK Platz 14), "A.B.C. Boogie" (1955, D Platz 20), "The Saint's Rock 'n' Roll" (1956, UK Platz 5), "R-O-C-K" (1956, USA Platz 29), "Rockin' Through The Rye" (1956, UK Platz 3), "Rip It Up" (1956, UK Platz 4), "Razzle Dazzle" (1956, UK Platz 13), "Rudy's Rock" (1956, UK Platz 26) und "Don't Knock The Rock" (1957, UK Platz 7). 1958 folgte sein letzter großer Hit "Skinny Minnie" (1958, USA Platz 22). In den 60er Jahren konnte Bill Haley mit Tourneen durch Europa ein glanzvolles Comeback feiern. Er tourte bis Anfang der 80er Jahre mit seinen alten Hits. Am 09.02.1981 starb Bill Haley nach schwerer Krankheit. Eine letzte geplante Europatournee konnte nicht mehr stattfinden.- Shop: odax
