Does it sound paradoxical that you can lose weight while learning to love and appreciate your body just as it is right now, with all its alleged imperfections? Maybe, but psychotherapist and guided imagery pioneer Belleruth Naparstek's powerful meditation is what doubled weight loss in an eight-week controlled study at Canyon Ranch. Her soothing guided narrative and hypnotic suggestions amplify motivation to eat healthy foods and enjoy physical activity, while speeding up metabolism and envisioning the miraculous biochemical conversion of fat into energy, heat, growth, strength, and movement. Additionally, this book generates a profound sense of love and gratitude for the body, oneself, and others, which heightens serotonin levels in the bloodstream. This in turn reduces appetite, replaces addictive cravings, and increases motivation to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Belleruth's calm, trustworthy, empowering voice is beautifully paired with the exquisite music of Steven Mark Kohn and produced by the Cleveland Orchestra's impeccable sound engineer, Bruce Gigax, to create optimal impact with repeated listening. A separate track of affirmations offers the same images and suggestions in a briefer format, designed for repeated listening while on the go or even while driving. And playing the music alone on the final segment helps listeners integrate at an even deeper level the profound physiological and emotional changes gained on this powerful audio program. Known for his meaty seriocomic novels, expansive works that are simultaneously lowbrow and highbrow, Tom Robbins has also published over the years a number of short pieces, predominantly nonfiction. His travel articles, essays, and tributes to actors, musicians, sex kittens, and thinkers have appeared in publications ranging from Esquire to Harper's, from Playboy to The New York Times, High Times, and Life. A generous sampling, collected here for the first time and including works as diverse as scholarly art criticism and some decidedly untypical country music lyrics, Wild Ducks Flying Backward offers a rare sweeping overview of the eclectic sensibility of an American original. Whether he is rocking with the Doors, depoliticizing Picasso's Guernica, lamenting the angst-ridden state of contemporary literature, or drooling over tomato sandwiches and a species of womanhood he calls "the genius waitress," Robbins's briefer writings often exhibit the same five traits that perhaps best characterize his novels: an imaginative wit, a cheerfully brash disregard for convention, a sweetly nasty eroticism, a mystical but keenly observant eye, and an irrepressible love of language. Embedded in this primarily journalistic compilation are a couple of short stories, a sheaf of largely unpublished poems, and an off-beat assessment of our divided nation. And wherever we open Wild Ducks Flying Backward, we're apt to encounter examples of the intently serious playfulness that percolates from the mind of a self-described "romantic Zen hedonist" and "stray dog in the banquet halls of culture." ungekürzt. Would you rather quit smoking gradually or go cold turkey? Award-winning psychotherapist and guided imagery pioneer Belleruth Naparstek has created a guided meditation and affirmations program that will allow you to do either with maximum ease and comfort, depending on preference. Scored to the exquisite music of Steven Mark Kohn, this powerfully effective program was shown to double the rate and duration of successful abstinence in several University of Akron studies. Belleruth's famously evocative and hypnotic suggestions use positive motivation to get you smoke free by helping you imagine your lungs healing and toxins clearing, while your capacity grows each day for taking in more and more rich, energizing, life-giving oxygen. Listeners are also led to anticipate the return of fuller senses of smell and taste while learning critical self-calming and relaxation skills to deploy when the urge to smoke threatens to overtake progress. Called by Mitch Firger, director of Smokenders®, "an excellent complement to any behavioral change program, greatly helping to reduce stress and reinforce the resolve to stay smoke-free". Regular listening to this audio works well with other tools and techniques but also can serve as a standalone technique. Belleruth's state-of-the-art narrative and calm, trustworthy voice pairs beautifully with Steve Kohn's inspired music and the impeccable production skill of Bruce Gigax, the Cleveland Orchestra's sound engineer, to create a motivational gem with optimal impact. A separate track of affirmations offers the same potent imagery and suggestions in a briefer format, designed for repeated listening while on the go or even while driving. Language: English. Join Fr. John R. Donahue, S.J., one of Catholicism's leading Mark experts, in exploring the Gospel of Action.Christianity was at a crossroads. The great apostles Peter and Paul had died. Members of the original Christian communities had passed. Jesus' word might also soon be buried and forgotten. But it was Mark's good news - not Matthew's - that saved the faith.Did you know that Matthew's Gospel includes over 90 percent of Mark's material? The Church has long revered both as divinely inspired. But for centuries, it was thought that Mark was the "orphan gospel", simply a briefer version of Matthew. Most scholars now believe Mark was written first.Did you know that Mark is the only Gospel in which the word that translates to "good news" actually appears? Although the shortest and most plainspoken of all the Gospels, it is also a crucial independent source on Jesus, His life and His ministry.Boasting decades of scholarship on Mark, Fr. Donahue tells Jesus' story through Mark's eyes as Jesus faces evil, heals the sick, and urges us to examine how we live our own lives. Most importantly, you will see Jesus as not only divine, but as a man who died for the world's sins. These 12 talks will prove to be invaluable companions for anyone seeking a deeper and fuller understanding of this simple, but fulfilling, Gospel. This course is part of the Learn25 collection and includes a free PDF study guide.PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio. Can you ever really recover from posttraumatic stress (PTSD)? Psychotherapist, guided imagery pioneer, and trauma expert Belleruth Naparstek says yes, and has the research to prove it. Her powerfully transformative guided meditations were found in four different clinical studies to significantly lower all three clusters of PTS symptoms by six weeks of regular listening, reducing flashbacks, nightmares, isolation, numbing, fear, shame, cynicism, and anger, while restoring a sense of inner goodness, hope, self-esteem, and meaning - all just over the course of eight weeks of regular listening. Naparstek, the author of the award-winning book, Invisible Heroes: Survivors of Trauma and How They Heal, combines this physiologically balancing, psychologically sophisticated, and spiritually inspiring guided narrative with the exquisite scoring of Steven Mark Kohn's music, to deliver a depth charge of healing to survivors of combat and military sexual trauma, childhood abuse, motor vehicle accidents, criminal assault, domestic violence, natural disasters, ICU stays, and traumatic hospital experiences. A separate track of affirmations bolsters the healing process with quick, positive reminders in a briefer format, which can be heard and enjoyed while engaged in other activities, including driving. Another track of the music alone helps to integrate and solidify the deep inner gains achieved through the other two tracks, and ensure they last. Designed for use as a supportive supplement to other treatment approaches for PTSD, or as a stand-alone intervention, this ground breaking program is recommended and distributed by the US Veterans Administration, Kaiser Permanente, The Red Cross, the US Army, and hundreds of hospitals and treatment centers nationwide. “After us, the deluge. I care not what happens when I am dead and gone.” (Madame de Pompadour) Jean Antoinette Poussin, the woman who would become known as Madame de Pompadour, was a middle-class girl of uncertain parenthood who became one of many in a long line of King Louis XV’s mistresses before she died at the age of 42. While none of that stands out on its own when it comes to French history and royalty, historians have labeled her “no ordinary king’s mistress.... She made and unmade ministers, she selected ambassadors, she appointed generals, [and] she conferred pensions and places.” In fact, her most savage critics concede her vital importance and historical legacy, even if begrudgingly, as one 1869 magazine noted: “If one could create an expurgated edition of history, one might put Madame de Pompadour out of sight; but alas! the 18th century, and even the French Revolution, cannot be understood without taking her into consideration. She was possessed of greater power in Europe than any woman of modern times, with the exception, perhaps, of Elizabeth of England, and Catherine of Russia. She was the Sultana of France for 20 years, with the Sultan in leading-strings. Therefore, history, with a blush, is obliged to chronicle the doings of the Pompadour.” Indeed, one writer compared her influence to some of the most famous Frenchmen to emerge from non-royal backgrounds: “Except for Bonaparte, and perhaps Robespierre, whose tenures were briefer, and de Gaulle, who was in principle answerable to an electorate, no French commoner - and certainly no woman - ever achieved such imperial sway.”  King Louis XV reigned for 72 years, and his predecessors had survived multiple palace intrigues and challenges to their thrones, sometimes by their mothers, wives, and members of the court. Louis XV had used Versailles, his grandfather’s getaway hunting lodge, to control the nobility and center court life around the king’s personality cult. Rather than seek poli ungekürzt.
