Histories of Drug Trafficking in Twentieth-Century Mexico (eBook, PDF)
This work brings together a new generation of drug historians and new historical sources to uncover the history of the drug trade and its regulations. While the US and Mexican governments developed anti-drug discourses and policies, which criminalized both high-profile traffickers and small-time addicts, these authorities also employed the criminals and cash connected to the drug trade to pursue more pressing political concerns. The politics, socioeconomic relations, and criminal justice system of modern Mexico has been shaped by standing public and covert state policies as well as by the interaction of subnational trajectories of drug production and trafficking. The essays in this study explore this complicated narrative and provide insight into Mexico's history and the wider contemporary global drug trade.- Shop: buecher

The Criminalization of Christianity: Listen to This Before It Becomes Illegal! , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 447min
There is a war going on for the future of our country. Most people know that. What they may not know is that if Christians lose, the result won't merely be enduring public policy we disagree with, it will be a prison sentence for those who oppose it. We've all seen the attack coming. First the Supreme Court said kids can't pray in school. Then the Ten Commandments were ripped from the classrooms. Now pastors are being removed from their pulpits and put in jail for speaking out against homosexuality (Sweden). And things are only getting worse. How in the world did we get to this place? And why is it that Christians are singled out in this assault on morality? Serving as a wake-up call for America, this book will expose the truth that Christianity is being criminalized and that we must stand up against it now. ungekürzt. Language: English. Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 675min
In modern Britain, the working class has become an object of fear and ridicule. From Little Britain's Vicky Pollard to the demonization of Jade Goody, media and politicians alike dismiss as feckless, criminalized and ignorant a vast, underprivileged swathe of society whose members have become stereotyped by one, hate-filled word: chavs. In this acclaimed investigation, Owen Jones explores how the working class has gone from 'salt of the earth' to 'scum of the earth.' Exposing the ignorance and prejudice at the heart of the chav caricature, he portrays a far more complex reality. The chav stereotype, he argues, is used by governments as a convenient fig leaf to avoid genuine engagement with social and economic problems and to justify widening inequality. When Chavs was first published in 2011 it opened up the discussion of class in Britain. Then, in the public debate after the riots of that summer, Owen Jones's thesis was proved right - the working class were the scapegoats for everything that was wrong with Britain. This new edition includes a new chapter, reflecting on the overwhelming response to the book and the situation in Britain today. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Leighton Pugh. Hacking: Viruses and Malware, Hacking an Email Address and Facebook page, and More , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 151min
Welcome to the third edition of your Cyber-Security Playground Guide. Would you like to acquire an impressive online skill such as writing a virus? Have you always wanted to understand how people get your information? Are you interested in increasing your personal security online or your hacking toolkit? If you can say "yes" to any one of these questions, then Hacking is the book for you. In this book, you will learn several skills and techniques that you need to acquire in order to become a successful computer hacker. Hacking is a term that has been associated with negativity over the years. It has been mentioned when referring to a range of cybercrimes including identity theft, stealing of information, and generally being disruptive. However, all this is actually a misconception and misunderstanding - a misuse of the word hacking by people who have criminalized this skill. Hacking is actually more about acquiring and properly utilizing a programming skill. The intention of hacking is for the improvement of a situation, rather than of taking advantage of a situation. This book provides a holistic view of everything that is entailed in hacking, explaining both the negative side of hacking and the positive side. The details that are discussed in this book include how to acquire the right hacking skills, and how to then develop these skills over a period of time. These details are laid out in topic-specific chapters. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Elliott Carr. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/081057/bk_acx0_081057_sample.mp3. Sex with Shakespeare: Here's Much to Do with Pain, but More with Love , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 596min
A provocative, moving, kinky, and often absurdly funny memoir about Shakespeare, love, obsession, and spanking. When it came to understanding love, a teenage Jillian Keenan had nothing to guide her - until a production of The Tempest sent Shakespeare's language flowing through her blood for the first time. In Sex with Shakespeare, she tells the story of how the Bard's plays helped her embrace her unusual sexual identity and find a love story of her own. Four hundred years after Shakespeare's death, Keenan's smart and passionate memoir brings new life to his work. With 14 of his plays as a springboard, she explores the many facets of love and sexuality - from desire and communication to fetish and fantasy. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, Keenan unmasks Helena as a sexual masochist - like Jillian herself. In Macbeth, she examines criminalized sexual identities and the dark side of "privacy". The Taming of the Shrew goes inside the secret world of bondage, domination, and sadomasochism while King Lear exposes the ill-fated king as a possible sexual predator. Moving through the canon, Keenan makes it abundantly clear that literature is a conversation. In Sex with Shakespeare, words are love. As Keenan wanders the world in search of connection, from desert dictatorships to urban islands to disputed territories, Shakespeare goes with her - and provokes complex, surprising, and wildly important conversations about sexuality, consent, and the secrets that simmer beneath our surfaces. ungekürzt. Blood Diamonds: The Controversial History of Mining Operations in Africa That Subsidize Conflicts Across the Continent , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 78min
The commercial exploitation of Sierra Leonean diamonds began in the early 1930s, in the Kono District in the east of the country. The first discoveries had been made by a British-held concern called Consolidated African Selection Trust, or CAST, in which a British shareholder body, Selection Trust Limited, shared a significant interest with the diamond giant, De Beers. Transparency, of course, was not by any means absolute, but under British colonial oversight, the movement of diamonds out of the country was regulated and royalties channeled reasonably appropriately. In the past, all diamond mining in Sierra Leone had fallen under the control of the Sierra Leone Selection Trust - or SLST - a private investor body with exclusive rights to mine diamonds in Sierra Leone. By the mid-1950s and 1960s, illegal and illicit mining had taken over large areas of production. Figures vary, but by the 1960s, one can assume a figure of upwards of 100,000 illegal miners, both domestic and foreign, were active in the Kono District. Armed groups began to appear, challenging private SLST security, eventually fermenting a situation of anarchy under which regulated and taxed diamond production diminished to a trickle. Naturally, the corruption was at its most pervasive and creative surrounding diamonds. The industry was effectively criminalized, becoming the basis of a patrimonial shadow system geared toward sustaining wealth and power at its center. Distrustful of his own countrymen and tribal opponents, Stevens handed off much of the day-to-day business of diamonds to Lebanese businessmen who had been a somewhat anomalous presence in Sierra Leone since the end of the 19th century. From a peak of over two million carats officially exported in 1970, legitimate diamond exports dropped to 595,000 carats in 1980 and 48,000 carats in 1988. ungekürzt. Language: English. Predator Nation: Corporate Criminals, Political Corruption, and the Hijacking of America , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 810min
Charles H. Ferguson, who electrified the world with his Oscar-winning documentary Inside Job, now explains how a predator elite took over the country, step by step, and he exposes the networks of academic, financial, and political influence, in all recent administrations, that prepared the predators' path to conquest. Over the last several decades, the United States has undergone one of the most radical social and economic transformations in its history. Finance has become America's dominant industry, while manufacturing, even for high technology industries, has nearly disappeared. The financial sector has become increasingly criminalized, with the widespread fraud that caused the housing bubble going completely unpunished. Federal tax collections as a share of GDP are at their lowest level in 60 years, with the wealthy and highly profitable corporations enjoying the greatest tax reductions. Most shockingly, the United States, so long the beacon of opportunity for the ambitious poor, has become one of the world's most unequal and unfair societies. If you're smart and a hard worker, but your parents aren't rich, you're now better off being born in Munich, Germany, or in Singapore than in Cleveland, Ohio, or New York. This radical shift did not happen by accident. Ferguson shows how, since the Reagan administration in the 1980s, both major political parties have become captives of the moneyed elite. It was the Clinton administration that dismantled the regulatory controls that protected the average citizen from avaricious financiers. It was the Bush team that destroyed the federal revenue base with its grotesquely skewed tax cuts for the rich. And it is the Obama White House that has allowed financial criminals to continue to operate unchecked, even after supposed "reforms" installed after the collapse of 2008. Predator Nation reveals how once-revered figures like ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Rob Shapiro. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/rand/003086/bk_rand_003086_sample.mp3.
