The national best-selling author of the Legion of the Damned novels, "a must-read for any fan of Mil Fic," (Archaeologist's Guide to the Galaxy) begins a brand new science fiction police procedural series...In the year 2038, an act of bioengineered terrorism decimated humanity. Those who survived were either completely unaffected or developed horrible mutations. Across the globe, nations are now divided between areas populated by "norms" and lands run by "mutants" - Detective Cassandra Lee of Los Angeles's Special Investigative Section has built a fierce reputation taking down some of the city's most notorious criminals. But the serial cop killer known as Bonebreaker - who murdered Lee’s father - is still at large. Officially, she’s too personally involved to work on the Bonebreaker case. Unofficially, she's going to hunt him to the ends of the earth. In the meantime, duty calls when the daughter of Bishop Screed, head of the Church of Human Purity, is kidnapped by mutants and taken into the red zone to be used for breeding. Assigned to rescue her, Lee must trust her new partner - mutant lawman Deputy Ras Omo - to guide her not only through the unfamiliar territory but through the prejudicial divisions between mutants and norms.... ungekürzt. Powder Smoke
York railway station, December, 1925. Detective Inspector Jim Stringer is enjoying a pint in the Parlour Bar before accompanying his wife, Lydia, to a charitable function. But when the couple meet at their regular spot near the footbridge, Jim is alarmed to see a man pointing a revolver in his direction. His thoughts go spinning back to a hot day at the end of August, when he attended the York Summer Gala in company with his boss, Superintendent Saul Weatherill, aka 'the Chief'. The Chief, a lover of guns, had insisted on taking Jim into a Wild West sideshow. The star of the show was a moody young sharpshooter called Kid Durrant, who spoke like someone who'd come from Arizona via Sheffield (or vice versa). As Jim watched Durrant displaying his deadeye skills, he little realised how this would be the start of his most dangerous investigation yet. POWDER SMOKE heralds the return of Andrew Martin's much-loved railway policeman, Jim Stringer.- Shop: buecher

The Weirdies, Hörbuch, Digital, 103min
This is a very, very sad story. The characters suffer terrible tragedies. People die in unspeakable ways. Only a truly horrible person would be amused by their misfortune.Nevertheless, it is kind of funny. My advice is that you listen to this all by yourself. People can be judgy. If you’re a fan of A Series of Unfortunate Events, Edward Scissorhands, or the darkest bits of Roald Dahl, the Weirdie triplets - Barnacle, Garlic, and Melancholy - will feel like old friends. After being left behind when the entire estate of Deadeye Manor is packed up for a doomed vacation cruise, the triplets have to learn how to fend for themselves. (When a staff of 200 servants has taken care of your every need, even brushing your own teeth is a mountainous task.) From their time at the Our Lady of the Perpetual Side-Eye Orphanage to their adoptive home on picture-perfect Sunshine Circle, the Weirdies have a lot to learn about the world...but, at least, they have each other. Assassins of the Lost Kingdom : Airship Daedalus, Book 2 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 397min
July, 1926 finds ace pilot Jack McGraw and scientist Dorothy “Doc” Starr, hot on the trail of evil agents murdering prominent captains of industry - a trail that leads them to face an old enemy they thought vanquished. With the backing of Thomas Edison's A.E.G.I.S. foundation, Jack and Doc use their light reconnaissance airship Daedalus to travel to the Himalayas, where a deeper mystery unfolds. Together with their crewmates, suave English radioman Edward “Duke” Willis, curmudgeonly Bronx mechanic Carl “Rivets” Holloway and laconic Cherokee sharpshooter Charlie “Deadeye” Dalton, they delve into local customs and ancient lore surrounding the “Eye of the World”, a hidden kingdom in the heart of the mountains known as Shambala, where the only antidote to the world's deadliest poison still grows wild. Based on the Airship Daedalus retro pulp comic strip by Todd Downing and Brian Beardsley, Assassins of the Lost Kingdom is the first novel from author E.J. Blaine, who brings the fun and excitement of classic adventure stories to the fore. Mobsters, mad science, secret societies, occult threats, and lost worlds meet globe-trotting, sky-high aerial adventure and two-fisted heroism, like the pulp novels of old! "Airship Daedalus: Assassins of the Lost Kingdom has everything you'd hope for in a pulp adventure. Crafted in the mold of its predecessors from the 1920s, the book has a bit of everything. Adventure, intrigue, danger - and most of all, atmosphere. I'd recommend it to fans looking for hints of late-era steampunk, 1920s pulp adventures, Indiana Jones, or just people looking for a fun, fast adventure." (Jeffrey Cook, author of the Dawn of Steam Trilogy) ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Luke Amundson. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/157806/bk_acx0_157806_sample.mp3.
