Unconventional Investment Strategies for How to Retire Young in Your Early Twenties, How to Become Wealthy at a Young Age, and What Every Student Wish They Knew and Were Never Taught , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 116min
This book sheds light on unconventional investment strategies for how to retire young in your early twenties and elucidates how to become wealthy at a very young age. Moreover, you'll also discover what every student wish they knew and were never taught. In the digital era, retiring in your early twenties is more viable than any time in history, especially with the monetization and global digital distribution capabilities of social media platforms. An exorbitant amount of millennials who have taken the circuitous path through life have been able to retire prematurely in their early twenties as a result of their business acumen, marketing shrewdness, unwavering self-discipline, and years of strategic hard work. These early retiree millennials understand the sacrosanct value of time, the earnings potential of entrepreneurship, personalized brand building, the long-term value of creating and buying income generating assets, and the financial outcome of accruing compound interest from their investments overtime. The early retiree millennials often embrace a minimalist life and have abstained from hemorrhaging their time. They forgo pursuing worthless degree programs that bear lofty tuition costs and egregiously massive opportunity costs. They understand that college students and graduate students who have taken the traditional educational college and graduate school path through life have dire qualms about their major educational decisions. It is disconcerting to hear that engineers succumb to being pizza delivery drivers, doctors succumb to working as day labors on farms, and lawyers even concede to being Uber drivers in order to generate income in the digital era. If earning a college degree, graduate degree, or even a doctorate cannot even help you attain a job, then it is unequivocally worthless. Unconventional investments strategies for how to retire young in your early twenties require you to make extreme concessions to undergo. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: William Bahl. Magic and Witchcraft , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 279min
We have long wished that some English or foreign university would offer a prize for a history of magic and witchcraft. The records of human opinion would contain few chapters more instructive than one that should deal competently with the black arts. For gross and painful as the details of superstition may be, yet superstition, by its very etymology, implies a dogma or a system of practice standing upon some basis of fact or truth, and however vain or noxious the superstructure may be, the foundation of it is in some way connected with those deep verities upon which rest also the roots of philosophy and religion. For a grand error, and such alone can at any time essentially affect the opinions of mankind in general, is ever the imitation or caricature of some grand truth. From one soil spring originally the tree that yields good fruit and the plant that distills deadly poison. The very discernment of the causes of error is a step toward the discovery of its opposite. The minds of man, when analyzed, afford a clue to the course of its movements from the right track or at least enable us to detect the point at which began the original separation between truth and error. Alchemy led, by no very circuitous route, to the science of chemistry; the adoption of false gods by the majority of the human race rendered necessary the dispensations of the Jewish and Christian schemes; and the corruption of true reverence for the good, the beautiful, and the holy, was the parent of those arts, which, under the several appellations of magic, witchcraft, sorcery, etc., drew their professors at first and the multitude afterward to put faith in the evil, the deformed, and the impure. Magic and witchcraft are little more than the religious instincts of mankind, first inverted, then polluted, and finally, like all corrupted matter, impregnated with the germs of a corrupt vitality. ungekürzt. Abraham Lincoln: A Life, 1861: From Springfield to Washington, Inauguration, and Distributing Patronage , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 383min
Publishers Weekly describes this book as “the most meticulously researched Lincoln biography ever written." Burlingame's Lincoln comes alive as the author unfolds vast amounts of new research while breathing new life into familiar stories. Publishers Weekly also notes, “The book need not be heard in one sitting. Each part stands alone.” Now Gildan Media brings to you, chapter by chapter, what Doris Kearns Goodwin calls a “…profound and masterful portrait.” From Springfield to Washington, Inauguration, and Distributing Patronage (1861): “The Man Does Not Live Who Is More Devoted to Peace Than I Am, But It May Be Necessary to Put the Foot Down Firmly”. From Springfield to Washington (February 11-22 1861): Lincoln agrees to undertake a taxing, circuitous, 1,900-mile train ride from Springfield to Washington in order to accommodate Republican friends in various states where they want him to speak. He alternates between giving hard-line, conciliatory, and embarrassing speeches concerning the Southern secession at these victory stops, as well as dealing with the varied receptions he receives at Albany, Buffalo, and New York City, etc. The threat of assassination and possible riots in Baltimore force Lincoln to enter Washington under the cover of darkness. Much to his chagrin, he is ridiculed by the press. His embarrassment at appearing weak and fearful may have disposed him in the momentous coming weeks to avoid steps that might deepen that unfortunate impression. “I Am Now Going to Be Master”: Inauguration (February 23 – March 4, 1861): Lincoln’s arrival in Washington generally helps lift the spirits of the city’s inhabitants and the North. Despite his efforts to help reach some kind of compromise, the much touted Peace Conference ends in failure and acrimony. Meanwhile, Lincoln works on his all-important inaugural address, fielding suggestions from close colleagues and deflecting efforts by Seward to make it more bellicose. At thi ungekürzt. The Dao of Capital: Austrian Investing in a Distorted World , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 689min
As today's preeminent doomsday investor Mark Spitznagel describes his Daoist and roundabout investment approach, “one gains by losing and loses by gaining.” This is Austrian Investing, an archetypal, counterintuitive, and proven approach, gleaned from the 150-year-old Austrian School of economics, that is both timeless and exceedingly timely. In The Dao of Capital, hedge fund manager and tail-hedging pioneer Mark Spitznagel—with one of the top returns on capital of the financial crisis, as well as over a career—takes us on a gripping, circuitous journey from the Chicago trading pits, over the coniferous boreal forests and canonical strategists from Warring States China to Napoleonic Europe to burgeoning industrial America, to the great economic thinkers of late 19th century Austria. We arrive at his central investment methodology of Austrian Investing, where victory comes not from waging the immediate decisive battle, but rather from the roundabout approach of seeking the intermediate positional advantage (what he calls shi), of aiming at the indirect means rather than directly at the ends. The monumental challenge is in seeing time differently, in a whole new intertemporal dimension, one that is so contrary to our wiring. Spitznagel is the first to condense the theories of Ludwig von Mises and his Austrian School of economics into a cohesive and—as Spitznagel has shown—highly effective investment methodology. From identifying the monetary distortions and non-randomness of stock market routs (Spitznagel's bread and butter) to scorned highly-productive assets, in Ron Paul's words from the foreword, Spitznagel “brings Austrian economics from the ivory tower to the investment portfolio.” The Dao of Capital provides a rare and accessible look through the lens of one of today's great investors to discover a profound harmony with the market process—a harmony that is so essential today. Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics: A 10% Happier How-to Book , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 514min
This book will get you to meditate. Minus the pan flutes.ABC News anchor Dan Harris used to think that meditation was for people who collect crystals, play Ultimate Frisbee, and use the word namaste without irony. After he had a panic attack on live television, he went on a strange and circuitous journey that ultimately led him to embrace a practice he'd long considered ridiculous. Harris discovered that meditation made him more focused and less yanked around by his emotions. According to his wife, it also made him significantly less annoying. He wrote about his experiences in the bracingly candid and extremely funny memoir 10% Happier, which became a number one New York Times best seller and landed Harris in the entirely unexpected position of being one of meditation's most vocal public proponents. Here's what he's fixated on now: Science suggests that meditation can lower blood pressure, mitigate depression and anxiety, and literally rewire key parts of the brain, among numerous other benefits. And yet there are millions of people who want to meditate but aren't actually practicing. What's holding them back? In Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics, Harris and his friend Jeff Warren, a masterful teacher and "Meditation MacGyver", embark on a cross-country quest to tackle the myths, misconceptions, and self-deceptions that stop people from meditating. They rent a rock-star tour bus (whose previous occupants were Parliament Funkadelic) and travel across 18 states, talking to scores of would-be meditators - including parents, military cadets, police officers, and even a few celebrities. They create a taxonomy of the most common issues ("I suck at this", "I don't have the time", etc.) and offer up science-based life hacks to help people overcome them. The book is filled with game-changing and deeply practical meditation instructions. You'll also get access to the 10% Happier app, where you can listen for free t ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Dan Harris, Jeffrey Warren. Hurricane: Phantom Queen Diaries, Book 9 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 548min
What’s a goddess to do?After being lost at sea and taken prisoner by yet another denizen of the Titan realm, Quinn finds herself cold, wet, miserable, and very much alone. Until a familiar and unexpected face steps back into her life to remind her who she is - and has always - been: A fighter. Following this revelation, Quinn can only acknowledge that some journeys require circuitous routes, even if that means attaining her freedom and rushing - not to the rescue of her besieged allies - but to the mythical island of Aeaea, home to the infamous witch, Circe, where Quinn will be confronted with cryptic visions of the present and a brutal choice: To sacrifice everything she is on the altar of what she could become, or to continue stumbling around in the dark.No matter her decision, Quinn knows she must see order restored to the Eighth Sea if she hopes to save her friends and allies. But at what price? The answer to that could cost Quinn her very humanity and will reveal stark truths about her role in the war to come. A war her father predicted and, apparently, prepared for. A war which has already begun to claim the lives of those she cares about and will likely claim many more before all is said and done. But, before she can worry about any of that, Quinn must go to battle against her old friend and nemesis, rescue her besieged friends, and honor her end of a lopsided bargain - a task which will pit Quinn against her wildest nightmares and her darkest dreams with just one person at her side...a certain mouthy wizard from St. Louis - Nate Temple. The waters get even murkier as Quinn gets caught in a current that draws her closer and closer to the secrets which surround Atlantis, to the gates of the Underworld and the lost souls which lie beyond, and to the mysterious figure of her father, a wizard so powerful he defied time itself. Some people like to say that when it rains, it pours. But then they must never have met Quinn MacKenna. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Amanda Leigh Cobb. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/188601/bk_acx0_188601_sample.mp3. American Legends: The Life of Johnny Cash , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 65min
Johnny Cash, "The Man in Black", is among the most recognized and iconic vocal artists in the history of blues, country and gospel singing. During the second half of the 20th century, he produced a prolific and rarely-equaled career in the country genre as a singer, songwriter and guitarist, despite numerous struggles with alcohol and drug addiction. His trademark bass-baritone voice is instantly identifiable to listeners today, and his "parlando" style (combining an unaffected singing tone with a speech-like rhythm and pacing) has been taken up by the generation following his death in the early 21st century. Like Elvis Presley and other renowned artists who would later gather at Sun Records in Memphis during the 1950s, Johnny Cash emerged from the South and its blues and gospel traditions, and although his path to discovery took a more circuitous route, he came to join the biggest stars of his era, leaving a lasting mark on the industry and on American culture in the process. By the end of his life, Cash and his legendary voice of "emotional authority" had been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, in addition to numerous other honors. Cash accomplished all of this despite holding a life-long "distaste for the Nashville mainstream," which he believed was heading the wrong direction into ultra-commercialism. Nevertheless, over the span of a nearly 50 year career, Johnny Cash sold over 50 million albums and toured most of the world. While Cash's career spanned half a century and produced a voluminous amount of music, later generations have come to know Johnny Cash more for his rebellious attitude and his unrepentant way of life. Even as he was producing hits, he was burning himself up, admitting he "tried every drug there was to try", and on numerous occasions his alcohol and drug addictions nearl ungekürzt. This Fall , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 373min
Excerpt from the preface: I'm writing this preface retrospectively, on New Year's Day, 2016, just before I open the folder that holds the files that my "book" will comprise, this series of personal essays I wrote during a one-month window this fall, thus the title, starting late October and running until late November. It was a warm, spectacular fall this year, courtesy of El Nino, the ongoingly pleasant days just perfect for a splendorous leaf-fall. I have always loved that time of year, every day such a dramatic change from the day preceding, as if time is accelerated, trying to close down the show before Thanksgiving gets here, nature finally revealing, rapid-fire, all the glitzy layers it kept under wraps in the heat of the summer, like some mega-stage magic show, the pace breathtaking. As you will find out soon, I walk in the woods every day, usually in the morning, for an hour or so, as my wife Carol and I did for years before she passed away last winter. We used to have on those walks wonderfully circuitous conversations about anything and everything all rolled up together, day after day, completely unscripted, always surprising, like elaborate mazes we navigated to pass the time pleasingly together while we walked. We would wonder from time to time what it might be like if we tried to write them down, these meandering, vivid riffs on life, love, time, death, all of it. But, like dreams, about a minute after we got back to the workaday world they were wiped clean, receding simply into our nervous systems as a gathering residue of embodied wisdom, or wackiness, which are, we both agreed, right next to each other, sometimes even simultaneous, on the tachometer of human understanding. These walks and these talks somehow kept us grounded, steady, ready together to take on what we had to take on to make a way in a world where "normal," or at least a convincing simulation of it, is often obligatory. ungekürzt. Cold Pizza for Breakfast: A Mem-wha?? , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 850min
“Her biography, like her life, is a work of art.” So says singer/songwriter Janis Ian about Christine Lavin and her book Cold Pizza for Breakfast: A Mem-wha?? In this book, and now audiobook, Lavin recounts her circuitous, often hilarious route to becoming one of contemporary folk music’s most respected and beloved songwriters and performers. From Lincoln Center and other New York hot spots to theaters, music halls, and coffeehouses across North America and beyond, life on the road has defined Lavin’s life and music. If she lacked a master plan, she had the heart and chutzpah to keep moving and noting carefully what she saw of human nature along the way. It paid off. Her laser-sharp wit and perceptive irony produced a body of song, and now a book, that captures her life and touches our own (foibles included).Christine’s 14-hour audiobook also includes a foreword written and read by actor and singer-songwriter Jeff Daniels; two brand-new verses of the classic song “It Was a Very Good Year,” sung by its author, Ervin Drake; and a cappella bookmarks performed by The Accidentals. As Christine reads her lively tales, she occasionally picks up her guitar and sings to illustrate a point. Join her on this memorable and fun-filled journey and learn some of the most beloved talents in music, stage and screen. As Dirty Linen magazine puts it: “Christine Lavin is a storyteller par excellence. She can take the most trivial encounter and spin it into gold, exposing the heart of the matter with humor and grace.” About the author: Singer, songwriter, and entertainer Christine Lavin has released 20 solo albums and eight compilations. She has garnered eight ASCAP Awards and was the founder of the performing folk collective Four Bitchin’ Babes. Her songs are performed by artists including Sutton Foster and have been featured in Off Broadway and touring productions. She created and currently hosts “Slipped Discs” on XM/Sirius Radio’s The Village. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Christine Lavin.
