Interlopers - book 1 of the Strangers Bureau Series is a novella introducing my new series of supernatural mysteries - The Strangers Bureau - featuring veteran Sûreté detective Eleanor Gerard and set in the now tranquil but historically blood soaked landscape of Northern France. Book 2 in The Strangers Bureau series - Pictures of Lily - is about the ghosts of the Western Front and the spirits of the ones they left behind. In Interlopers we discover that not all is well within the mysterious, ultra secretive Security Committee for Interloper Affairs.  For nearly a century, SCIA's work has remained a dark secret within the underbelly of French Governments through war and peace. Nominally acting under the direction of the Ministry of the Interior, the Security Committee for Interloper Affairs - the best kept secret of the Fifth Republic - has become a bloated, corrupt monster, a rogue organ of state whose senior officers are more preoccupied with their own personal aggrandisement and the preservation of SCIA's power, than any meaningful notion of service to the French state.  No French government has ever admitted the existence of SCIA and yet in Paris key members of the embattled socialist administration - confronted with poll ratings in free fall and a deepening economic crisis - has belatedly recognized that the Security Committee for Interloper Affairs is a loudly ticking time bomb. SCIA was created to quarantine, to hide, to render invisible a reality that no French Government has ever dared to confront.  Now is the time of reckoning when sooner rather than later, that reality will become public knowledge.  And when that happens, so too, will the scandal of the Security Committee for Interloper Affairs.  Acting under presidential decree three men meet clandestinely in a villa at Compiegne to belatedly begin to contemplate the unthinkable. ungekürzt. Since its publication in 1983 - a phenomenal success that sold nearly half a million copies-male and female readers alike have acclaimed it as a witty, warn, and life-changing view of the world "as if women mattered." Steinem's most personal writing is here, from the humorous expose "I Was a Playboy Bunny" to prescient essays on female genital mutilation and the difference between erotica and pornography. The satirical and hilarious "If Men Could Menstruate" is alone worth the price of admission. Yuletide overindulgence on the poison front . . .During the dark, grey days of early December Agatha is obsessed by two things - the looming festivities, and her ex, James Lacey. In order to drive the latter from her thoughts, Agatha concentrates on planning the perfect Christmas for her friends.Even the murder of a Mrs Tamworthy, poisoned with hemlock, does little to distract her and yet it should, as Mrs Tamworthy had written to Agatha, telling her that one of her family wanted to see her dead before the year was out. Another London reviews a survey of international photographers at Tate Britain. It is an enthralling and unexpected selection, and the anthology resonates beyond this showing. It is from the Eric and Louise Franck collection, which has been donated to the Tate, and is part of the process by which the gallery has very belatedly, but with almost overwhelming enthusiasm, entered into collecting and showing photography as a medium in in its own right, with a very active patrons group supporting acquisitions. One of the benefits of Tate joining the fray is evident in the installation of this show, roughly chronological, and rhythmically paced throughout its seven sections, with images shown in clusters, and individual photographers in depth. Vitrines show a number of books with images from settlers, by such as the American Alvin Langdon Coburn, the German EO Hoppe, and passersby, (usually on the way to America), such as the Hungarian Moholy-Nagy. ungekürzt. When Matthew had to renew his European visa, his point of exit was obvious: he was going to Morocco. Memories of his previous trip filled him with anxiety. What was he thinking? After everything that had happened, did he really want to go back? Scams. Altercations. Mishaps. But also humor and beauty. His curiosity overcoming his fears, his second trip would prove as unforgettable as the first. "My reflexes belatedly kicking in, I couldn't help but flinch. The children cheered, relishing having reduced me to their plaything." "Our little spectacle having brought the night market to a standstill, we were now surrounded by about 50 men. I was living the chaotic mob scene from so many movies, and it was every bit as nightmarish as it had always looked on-screen." "As I was about to let out a desperate cry that would require no translation, the giant finished...leaving me flinching on the floor like a bug that's been smashed but isn't quite dead." "Amidst astonishingly beautiful, unsullied waves of sand, a lone figure squatted, holding a roll of toilet paper. It was a peculiar, paradoxical sight."   An Amazon.com best-selling collection of travel writing as entertaining for the armchair traveler as indispensable for anyone interested in adventure in North Africa. ungekürzt.
