This book was published in 1894. It deals with untold accounts of the Underground Railroad. From various states in the South to the Abolitionist Progressives and Quakers in the Northeastern part of the United States. Riots, lynchings, torture, escapes, triumphs, and tragedy are included in this work. Most of these accounts were from primary sources, newspapers, and interviews by former slaves years after their heroic and arduous journeys. It is hard as a Caucasian to understand what it was life to be an African American slave before the American Civil War.H. U. Johnson took several years to write this book. He combed through six years of various newspapers, magazines, and interviews to compile this primary source history. I hope some it may be included in some textbooks soon. History is better when the political correctness and current narratives are not adhered to. The language is coarse and sometimes perverse but necessary to show the historical climate of the times. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Doc King Cole. A concise version of Bertrand Russell's political philosophy and thoughts, focusing on his favoring of guild socialism. While Russell believed that pure Anarchism should be the ultimate goal, his realism lead him to favor the guild socialism which he expands upon in this volume. Russell first discusses the various aspects of socialism, anarchism, and syndicalism, focusing also on the major men/movements associated with each school, Marx and socialism, Bakunin and anarchy, and CGT (Confederation Generale du Travail) and syndicalism. He then lays out problems that will exist for the future if these philosophies are adhered to and focuses on various areas including international relations and science/art. Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970) was a British philosopher considered to be one of the founders of analytic philosophy. He was considered a liberal, a socialist, and a pacifist, as well as a historian, logician, mathematician, and social critic. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 and wrote several volumes on his views. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: James Langton. The information society and the information age are changing library services as well as library premises. This raises questions about what needs to be considered when planning and designing new library buildings in order to achieve attractive, efficient and future-oriented new library spaces. This new publication provides information and guidelines for the building planning process, whether you are planning a new public or academic library building. It reflects on fundamental issues, on new development trends and on the planning process. The library building process is seen from both the library manager's perspective as well as that of the architect and designer. Issues covered include what to consider when investigating the need for space, library design from a marketing viewpoint, green management and sustainability relating to library buildings and a layman's guide to reading plans. This publication and the IFLA guidelines provided are not seen as a traditional set of recommendations to be rigidly adhered to since this would be unrealistic in a fast-changing and global context. Rather, library managers and architects should read them in order to inform their thinking on key issues and establish a planning programme. They must then relate them to their own countries and circumstances by making the relevant local adjustments.

Some Christians decry the deism of our Founding Fathers, claiming that outright anti-Christian principles lie at the heart of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution, crippling from birth our beloved republic. Here philosopher Timothy Gordon forcefully disagrees, arguing that while anti-Catholic bias kept them from admitting their reliance on Aristotle, Aquinas, and the early Jesuits, our Protestant and Enlightenment Founding Fathers secretly held Catholic views about politics and nature.Had they fully adhered to Catholic principles, argues Gordon, the "Catholic republic" that is America from its birth would not today be on the verge of social collapse. The instinctive Catholicism of our Founders would have prevented the cancerous growth of the state, our subsequent loss of liberties, the destruction of families, abortion on demand, the death of free markets, and the horrors of today's pervasive pagan culture. In Catholic Republic, Gordon recounts our nation's clandestine history of publicly repudiating, yet privately relying on, Catholic ideas about politics and nature. At this late hour in the life of the Church and the world, America still can be saved, claims Gordon, if only we soon return to the Catholic principles that are the indispensable foundation of all successful republics. ungekürzt. Inspired by the legendary William Bonney - more famously known as 'Billy the Kid' - William Bonney's Electric Book of Hours is a collection of contemporary poems and prose written by award winning multimedia artist, writer-director, and filmmaker, Jason Rosette (BookWars, 10,000 Miles to Go: An American Filmmaking Odyssey, Lost in New Mexico, Freedom Deal)."Jason Rosette has conjured up a modern Book of Hours inspired by modern saints and martyrs, such as Kerouac and Billy the Kid (aka William Bonney)...this buoyant book of reminisces chronicles people and places met along the way, in prose and “pomes” not without areas of darkness, as in a canvas by Caravaggio. Rosette’s was a journey from small town America to the America of his dreams that never quite adhered to any one place, but always seemed to beckon from just down the road." (Ralph Feliciello, editor)Alternately atmospheric, humorous, sentimental, and noirish, William Bonney's Electric Book of Hours roams from character-driven streets of New York City to the haunted highways and deserts of New Mexico, rebounding with orbed precision to the perimeters of the Libyan desert, the arroyos of New Mexico, and beyond! ungekürzt. Deliverance is in the details. Intricate, specific, instructive, explicit words not commonly evoked when we reminisce the greatest gift of mercy given. Calvary’s requirements were not our cup to bear. We need simply just to receive its grace. The memorial of the work done on the Cross, in fact, preceded it prophetically at Passover. A day that was later instituted for the Jews to give reverence for their freedom from Egyptian bondage also pointed to the ultimate day of hallmark, for all peoples to be released from the wages of sin. When we revisit the most important event of Exodus with close attention, we begin to realize God had a purpose for every stipulation commanded of Moses. The particulars of Passover tend to get lost in tradition, especially when the general idea of it becomes a mere custom in our churches. However, this was the one miracle commanded of the Hebrews to actively participate in, so that they would escape certain death that God himself would bring. Before the blood dripped from the doorposts, the generation that would soon be liberated adhered closely to Jehovah’s every condition. A Revelation of Passover observes the Lord’s detailed list of orders so that this day of remembrance can be truly commemorated and never again passed over. ungekürzt. The Bushido code is a code of honor that greatly influenced Japan’s culture in the 700’s. Bushido started as a code of war and went onto become a way of life and art. It governed every part of life, from honor and war to literature and poetry. Moreover, it impacted history in a significant way, from medieval times to World War II period. The Bushido is said to have begun in the 8th century. It was influenced by Shintoism, Confucianism, and Zen Buddhism. Some of the noblemen that adhered to Bushido later became samurai and eventually guards for daimyos and shoguns. The samurai have been known to serve their masters loyally; in fact, the term samurai translates to “one who serves”.The samurai carried swords during the Edo Period and these swords were perceived as a sign of trouble. During the Tokugawa period, the samurai were forbidden from having swords - that is when peace started returning to Japan. The samurai then turned to literature and arts. There are countless books written about the teachings and virtues of the Bushido.A samurai had only two options: life and death. In life, emphasis was placed on ability to fight, strength, and military prowess. A samurai warrior was always ready for battle. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Hadrian Howard. "Chrissie Rucker OBE, started The White Company in 1994, when, unable to find well-designed, beautiful-quality white bed linens, that were also affordable, she decided to invest her £6,000 savings to produce them. The first The White Company collection offered a small range of essentials for the home that included everything from high-quality bed linen, bedspreads, pillows and duvets to luxury towels, bathrobes, china and table linen - all in simple, classic white. Today, what began life as a small 12-page mail-order brochure has become one of the UK's fastest-growing multi-channel retailers and a trusted British lifestyle brand. The range has grown enormously and now also offers home accessories, fragrance, furniture, clothing, nightwear and children's wear. Throughout, The White Company has adhered to its core values, championed by Chrissie: a passion for white, great design and fantastic quality that is still affordable. 'We are obsessive about the details, and believe that beautiful things should be loved and used every day,' says Chrissie. When Chrissie started The White Company, she did every job herself: answering the phone, packing boxes, running the warehouse, buying the product, allocating the stock, producing the brochure, marketing and even the accounts and HR work. The result? There isn't an area of the business Chrissie hasn't been involved in or understood what challenges it can bring. Today, Chrissie's vision and passion for The White Company remains at the heart of the business, and she is
