This essay collection focuses on the gendered dimensions of reality television in both the United States and Great Britain. Through close readings of a wide range of reality programming, from Finding Sarah and Sister Wives to Ghost Adventures and Deadliest Warrior, the contributors think through questions of femininity and masculinity, as they relate to the intersections of gender, race, class, and sexuality. They connect the genre's combination of real people and surreal experiences, of authenticity and artifice, to the production of identity and norms of citizenship, the commodification of selfhood, and the naturalization of regimes of power. Whether assessing the Kardashian family brand, portrayals of hoarders, or big-family programs such as 19 Kids and Counting, the contributors analyze reality television as a relevant site for the production and performance of gender. In the process, they illuminate the larger neoliberal and postfeminist contexts in which reality TV is produced, promoted, watched, and experienced. Contributors. The Bloody Conflict is long over. The lands are now controlled by despots, crooked cattle barons, energy hoarders, and anyone with enough might to keep the local folks under control. For Clay Macaulay, none of that matters as he roams the land in a war machine from a time gone by. He wants nothing to do with small desert towns or brutal dictators. He only has his sights set on a new life. Unfortunately for Clay, too many ruthless people want what he has. They want the war machine he pilots. They want the battle mech that shouldn't exist anymore. They want his Fighting Iron. But they will have to pry Clay's cold, dead body out of that pilot's seat before they can take it from him. And he plans on fighting them every massive mech step of the way! A far-future mech western, Fighting Iron is a rip-roaring sci-fi adventure filled with six-shooters, plasma canons, rough and rowdy saloon brawls, showdowns, corrupt landowners, and 50-foot battle machines ready to crush everything in their path! ungekürzt. Follow New York Times best-selling author Mary Roach - but be careful not to trip - as she weaves through personal anecdotes and everyday musings riddled with her uncanny wit and amazingly analytical eye. These essays, which found a well-deserved home within the pages of Reader's Digest as the column "My Planet," detail the inner workings of hypochondriacs, hoarders, and compulsive cheapskates. (Did we mention neurotic interior designers and professional list makers?) For Roach, humor is hidden in the most unlikely places, which means that nothing is off limits. Whether she is dwelling on her age or talking about the pros and cons of a bedroom night light - "A married couple can best be defined as a unit of people whose sleep habits are carefully engineered to keep each other awake" - Roach finds a lesson, a slice of sarcasm, or a dash of something special that makes each day comical and absolutely priceless. In keeping with our mission - curating the best listens in the land - Reader's Digest editors neatly packaged these timeless (and hilarious) Roach essays together for the first time. ungekürzt. Every definition of clutter relates to covering an area with disordered or scattered items that reduce efficiency and/or obstruct movement. Since this so aptly describes what clutter really is, you will come to understand that declutter is considered the opposite. It essentially speaks to arranging things in order to make the area tidy and can bring about efficiency and facilitate free movement. The majority of hoarders are experiencing a psychological issue that requires addressing. If you are listening to this book and realize that you are in this group, you need to get yourself some assistance quickly from a psychologist. The writer of this book describes the importance of decluttering and doing so in a systematic way when the decision is made to do so. This is because if (for example) you go at it in a disorganized manner, you could end up with a clutter situation that is worse than what was there before and get really discouraged about continuing the process. Decide on a particular system and timeframe that will involve grouping objects in categories and then placing them to one side, to be placed in their respective places as soon as the majority of the clutter is cleared. Look for professional yet inexpensive guides that offer information on the most ideal methods of decluttering. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Joanna Riley. The Horse in My Garage and Other Stories is a hilarious addition to Patrick F. McManus’s existing work in humor. The author weighs in on his childhood, everyday life, and outdoor tales with his typical exaggerated commentary that will elicit a belly laugh from all types of listeners. Read about the antics of Patrick’s friends Rancid Crabtree and Retch Sweeney in such stories as “Shaping Up for the Hunt” and “Bear Hunters”. McManus plays off the recent obsession with hoarders in his surprising story “The Lady Who Kept Things”. In the titular story, meet Patrick’s horse, Huckleberry, and enjoy the experience of all the problems that come along with owning your own horse - or keeping him in the garage. Other great stories include “Catch-And-Eaters”, about the importance of a forked stick when fishing; “$7000 TV Historical Extravaganza”, a look at one director’s loose interpretation of historical accuracy and political correctness; “A Lake Too Far”, concerning the woes of Patrick and his wife, Bun, on a fateful birding trip in Australia; and “Chicken Chronicles”, which involves Patrick’s memory of wandering around naked in the chicken yard when guests came to call. So pull up a chair, sit back, and enjoy laughing to the hilarious adventures of Patrick F. McManus in The Horse in My Garage and Other Stories. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sean Pratt. Control Your Clutter! is a book that is going to show you how to gain control of the clutter in your house so you can reclaim a calm, stress-free life. The method in this book works even if you are a hoarder! For the person with just a little clutter to an all-out pack rat who hasn't thrown anything away for 30 years, this book has the solution to your problem. Do you hide and stay away from the windows when someone is knocking at your door? Do you have to clear away a place to sit when your family comes to visit? Even if the last time you saw your floor was 10 years ago, this book will work for you! Even the person who faces eviction due to their hoarding ways will be able to follow these steps and dig themselves out of their situation. In this book, I am going to give instructions about how to deal with your clutter. Surprisingly, I am not going to tell you to get rid of everything. I come from a very poor background, and I must tell you that I understand hanging on to something in case you need it again. After all, it doesn't make sense to throw something out and then turn around and buy it again the next time you need it. I am going to ask you to make some hard decisions about whether or not you really need each item you come across. As usual, you will either donate the stuff you don't need, sell it, or throw it in the trash if it has no value. But I am going to give you the option to organize the things you can't part with so that they are no longer clutter even if you keep them. This book breaks all of the barriers a person has to getting their life back in order. Because I allow you to choose to keep your possessions, it helps take away the fear of losing everything. It will help you be able to let go of more things during the process and then rationalize getting rid of more things you saved after a generous period of time. It is similar to pulling the band aid off slowly. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Alicia Giangrisostomi. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/082186/bk_acx0_082186_sample.mp3.
