In der Aufführungspraxis durchgesetzt hat sich eine Vollendung des Werkes durch Franco Alfano, ein Schüler des Komponisten. Dieser Version bedient sich auch die grandiose Produktion an der Wiener Staatsoper, die Lorin Maazel 1983 dirigierte. Mit Eva Marton in der Titelpartie und dem jungen José Carreras als Calaf ist diese Inszenierung schon fast ein opernhistorisches Dokument. Regisseur Harold Prince - unterstützt von einem symbolträchtigen Bühnenbild und fantasievollen Kostümen - vermied alle gängigen Klischees in dieser exotischen Märchenerzählung und lenkte die Konzentration auf die Interaktion zwischen den Charakteren in einem tragischen Geschlechterkampf.Das Premierenpublikum dankte es mit dreiviertelstündigen Ovationen, die dem Dirigenten wie den wunderbaren Sänger-Darstellern galten.- Shop: odax
