Russell Buddy Helm was classically trained from the age of eight and has performed and recorded with many greats: Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Tim Buckley, Allman Brothers, Frank Zappa, Bethlehem Asylum, Mike Bloomfield, Kinky Friedman, Big Joe Turner, and many others, and also on soundtracks for Ron Howard and other filmmakers. He wrote the Star Wars comic strips for George Lucas. He was also post-production supervisor for Dallas, Falcon Crest, Knots Landing, and other Lorimar television shows. Since 1987, he has been teaching drumming meditation in Santa Monica, California. "Immer da wo du bist bin ich nie" heißt es, und man möchte analog dazu ausrufen: sie sind immer da, wo man sie gerade nicht vermutet, denn wenngleich dieses Album die unverwechselbare Handschrift von Element Of Crime trägt und jedes Lied dem, der die Band kennt, zugleich neu wie auch vertraut vorkommt, so hat es doch einige Eigenheiten, die wir so nicht erwartet hätten: einen folkige Frische, die einem die Ohren freibläst, eine herbe Schönheit, die ein bisschen auf die Frühphase der Band verweist, auf die englischsprachigen 80iger Jahre, als man sie in aller Hilflosigkeit wahlweise (und wahllos) mit Velvet Underground, Bo Diddley oder Bob Dylan verglich. Es gibt da diese Tendenzen zum Lärm und zum Stampfen, zu Hammond-Orgel, Tambourin und Feedback-Gitarre, und wenn wir bei dieser Platte von Streichern sprechen, dann reden wir nicht vom süßen Schmelz, sondern eher von der "kratzig Violin", wie sie 1991 in einem Text auf der Platte "Damals hinterm Mond" erwähnt wurde.
