My Baby is Gone! Life went awry for Jake and Shannon Blue of Madison, Kentucky when kidnappers stole their infant son. What was not immediately apparent to the Blues or law enforcement agencies was that ISIS instigated the crime. Eventually, they learned that ISIS was holding Baby Jacob in Aleppo, Syria. ISIS propagandists in Paris worked rapidly to brainwash Shannon and force her to pledge allegiance to Mohammed. Narratives of the Crusades: The Chronicles of Joinville and Froissart , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1494min
This book contains two eye-witness chronicles of the Crusades: Geoffroi de Villehardouin's account of the Fourth Crusade and Jean de Joinville's account of the Seventh Crusade some 50 years later. The first, by Villehardouin, describes how the crusaders set out to recapture the Holy Land from the Turks but ended up killing other Christians and sacking Constantinople in 1204. The second chronicle, by Joinville, tells of the King Louis IX of France who went on the Seventh Crusade. Arriving in Egypt in 1249, he was defeated at Mansura, captured, and ransomed. He remained in Syria until 1254 to consolidate the crusader states. Together these narratives provide a gripping window on events, with interesting descriptions of places and the suffering of war. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Museum Audiobooks cast. Waking the Dead: The Glory of a Heart Fully Alive, Hörbuch, Digital, 202min
There is a glory to life that most people - including believers - never see. In this insightful new book, John Eldredge presents the heart as central to life. Not only is the heart essential, the heart God has ransomed is also good. Building on these foundational truths, Eldredge shows readers why real Christianity is a process of restoration, where the broken parts of our hearts are mended and the captive parts are set free. Waking the Dead leads listeners to understand how to live from the heart, care for their heart like the treasures of the kingdom, and give from fullness instead of emptiness. This message also shows how living from the heart can energize people to love God and others in a way they've never experienced, revealing to them life's purpose: fighting for the hearts of others. Stealing the Mystic Lamb: The True Story of the World's Most Coveted Masterpiece , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 627min
Jan van Eyck's Ghent Altarpiece is on any art historian's list of the 10 most important paintings ever made. Often referred to by the subject of its central panel, the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, it represents the fulcrum between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It is also the most frequently stolen artwork of all time. Since its completion in 1432, this 12-panel oil painting has been looted in three different wars, burned, dismembered, forged, smuggled, illegally sold, censored, hidden, attacked by iconoclasts, hunted by the Nazis and Napoleon, used as a diplomatic tool, ransomed, rescued by Austrian double-agents, and stolen a total of 13 times. In this fast-paced, real-life thriller, art historian Noah Charney unravels the stories of each of these thefts. In the process, he illuminates the whole fascinating history of art crime and the psychological, ideological, religious, political, and social motivations that have led many men to covet this one masterpiece above all others. ungekürzt. Blood Ransom: Stories From the Front Line in the War Against Somali Piracy , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 623min
For the first time in history, the navies of the world have united against a common enemy - a couple of thousand rag-tag, underfed men and boys in the western Indian Ocean. Crammed into open boats and armed with ancient AK-47s, they range up to a thousand miles from home shores in Somalia. No one knows how many die at sea. But occasionally they hit the jackpot, seizing vessels and crews to be ransomed for millions of dollars. This is a war that's estimated to have cost the world economy as much as $18 billion in a single year. Lawyer turned award-winning filmmaker John Boyle takes us with him in this investigation into modern-day piracy. We meet all those involved - from pirates to presidents, naval commanders to negotiators, and heroes to hostages. He addresses why these young men are choosing to risk their lives and freedom; the reality of life as a pirate; the defense tactics used by the international navies and shipping vessels; and what happens next.... ungekürzt. The Blue Tattoo: The Life of Olive Oatman: Women in the West, Book 1 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 407min
In 1851 Olive Oatman was a 13-year-old pioneer traveling west toward Zion with her Mormon family. Within a decade she was a white Indian with a chin tattoo, caught between cultures. The Blue Tattoo tells the harrowing story of this forgotten heroine of frontier America. Orphaned when her family was brutally killed by Yavapai Indians, Oatman lived as a slave to her captors for a year before being traded to the Mohave, who tattooed her face and raised her as their own. She was fully assimilated and perfectly happy when, at 19, she was ransomed back to white society. She became an instant celebrity, but the price of fame was high, and the pain of her ruptured childhood lasted a lifetime. Based on historical records, including letters and diaries of Oatman's friends and relatives, The Blue Tattoo is the first book to examine her life, from her childhood in Illinois - including the massacre, her captivity, and her return to white society - to her later years as a wealthy banker's wife in Texas. ungekürzt. Richard Wurmbrnad, born on March 24, 1909, was a Romanian Christian minister of Jewish descent.
