A Long Strange Trip: The Inside History of the Grateful Dead , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1765min
From 1965 to 1995, the Grateful Dead flourished as one of the most beloved, unusual, and accomplished musical entities to ever grace American culture. The creative synchronicity among Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, and Ron "Pigpen" McKernan exploded out of the early 60s roots and folk scene, providing the soundtrack for the Dionysian revels of the counterculture. Dennis McNally, the band's historian and publicist for more than 20 years, takes listeners back through the Dead's history in A Long Strange Trip. McNally not only chronicles their experiences in a fascinatingly detailed fashion, but veers off into side trips on the band's intricate stage setup, or the magic of the Grateful Dead concert experience. McNally carries the Dead's saga through the 70s and into the more recent years of constant touring and incessant musical exploration. Written with the same zeal and spirit that the Grateful Dead brought to its music, the book takes listeners on a personal tour through the band's inner circle, highlighting its frenetic and very human faces. A Long Strange Trip is not only a wide-ranging cultural history, it is a definitive musical biography. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sean Runnette. Friedrich Nietzsche: A Biography , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 18min
Friedrich Nietzsche was a German philosopher, cultural critic, poet, philologist, and Latin and Greek scholar whose work has exerted a profound influence on Western philosophy and modern intellectual history. He began his career as a classical philologist before turning to philosophy. He became the youngest ever to hold the Chair of Classical Philology at the University of Basel in 1869, at the age of 24. Nietzsche's body of work touched widely on art, philology, history, religion, tragedy, culture, and science, and drew early inspiration from figures such as Schopenhauer, Wagner, and Goethe. His writing spans philosophical polemics, poetry, cultural criticism, and fiction, while displaying a fondness for aphorism and irony. Some prominent elements of his philosophy include his radical critique of truth in favor of perspectivism; his genealogical critique of religion and Christian morality, and his related theory of master - slave morality; his aesthetic affirmation of existence in response to the "death of God" and the profound crisis of nihilism; his notion of the Apollonian and Dionysian; and his characterization of the human subject as the expression of competing wills, collectively understood as the will to power. In his later work, he developed influential concepts such as the übermensch and the doctrine of eternal return, and became increasingly preoccupied with the creative powers of the individual to overcome social, cultural, and moral contexts in pursuit of new values and aesthetic health. ungekürzt. Tearing the World Apart: Bob Dylan and the Twenty-First Century (American Made Music Series) , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 484min
Bob Dylan is many things to many people. Folk prodigy. Rock poet. Quiet gentleman. Dionysian impresario. Cotton Mather. Stage hog. Each of these Dylan creations comes with its own accessories, including a costume, a hairstyle, a voice, a lyrical register, a metaphysics, an audience, and a library of commentary. Each Bob Dylan joins a collective cast that has made up his persona for more than 50 years. No version of Dylan turns out uncomplicated, but the postmillennial manifestation seems peculiarly contrary - a tireless and enterprising antiquarian; a creator of singular texts and sounds through promiscuous poaching; an artist of innovation and uncanny renewal. This is a Dylan of persistent surrender from and engagement with a world he perceives as broken and enduring, addressing us from a past that is lost and yet forever present.Tearing the World Apart participates in the creation of the postmillennial Bob Dylan by exploring three central records of the 21st century: Love and Theft (2001), Modern Times (2006), and Tempest (2012) - along with the 2003 film Masked and Anonymous, which Dylan helped write and in which he appears as an actor and musical performer. The collection of essays does justice to this difficult Bob Dylan by examining his method and effects through a disparate set of viewpoints. Listeners will find a variety of critical contexts and cultural perspectives as well as a range of experiences as members of Dylan's audience. The essays in Tearing the World Apart illuminate, as a prism might, their intransigent subject from enticing and intersecting angles. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: James Killavey. The Daedalus Conspiracy: A Detective Novel of 1929: The Cyrus Skeen Series, Book 3 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 585min
In Part One, Cyrus Skeen, private detective in 1929 San Francisco, is asked by Charles Gilchrest, chairman of The Daedàlus Society, an exclusive men-only club, to go to the The Daedàlus Grove, a private enclave north of the city, to determine the nature of some trouble he has been warned about in a cryptic note written by an anonymous member. The note alludes to a controversial Senator from Nebraska and a tariff bill in Congress. It may the overture to a prank or it may be a serious threat to the man's life. Skeen agrees to attend the two-week encampment of the Society in rustic Monte Rio, an annual event in the redwood forest with a reputation for Dionysian orgies and behind-the-scenes conspiracies to govern the nation. Posing as a writer, at first Skeen feels out of his natural element of the city, but he soon begins to focus on certain individuals and their peculiar behavior, and begins to collect clues. He eventually grasps that there is indeed a serious plot afoot, but its purpose eludes him. His presence arouses the enmity of many of the 800 attendees of the encampment. At the end he confronts a man in a Minotaur costume wielding a Minoan battle ax. In Part Two, Skeen returns San Francisco, certain that there was more to the conspiracy to assassinate a U.S. senator. Pursuing clues and leads found in the city's political machine and in the grime of its underworld, he wraps up the case with his usual flair, but loses a treasured friend at the climax. ungekürzt. Joy, Inspiration, and Hope: Carolyn and Ernest Fay Series in Analytical Psychology , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 322min
Emotion is an expression of the self, Verena Kast writes in this ground-breaking study of the neglected emotions of joy, inspiration, and hope. If we decide we no longer want to hide behind empty shells, then we will have to allow certain emotions more room. We will have to let ourselves laugh louder, cry louder, and shout for joy. Kast skillfully and engagingly makes the case that not only therapists and analysts but also individuals seeking growth in their own lives should give more attention to the elated emotions. Fear of excess (mania) and analytic preoccupation with grief, anxiety, and depression have together caused joy and hope to be shunned as a focus in individuation (the process toward wholeness). Kast convincingly demonstrates the role of joy in relationship and existential involvement. Joy answers the human need for elated feeling and meaning in our lives, a need which is often filled in modern society by secularized parodies of religious ecstasy, such as addiction and compulsiveness. Kast explores the Dionysian myth as an archetypal image of the transforming effect of ecstasy on the personality. She considers Sisyphus, the absurd hero of French existentialism, as the symbol for rejection of false hope and joy, rejection which clears the way for true hope rooted in basic trust and the positive mother archetype. She suggests simple techniques for recapturing our joy through development of an autobiography of joy. Using this approach, we can discover what gives us joy personally, how we can best experience joy, and how and why we choke off our joy. By viewing joy, inspiration, and hope as core emotions in our being, we open ourselves to greater wholeness and fuller life. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Ruth Rosenberg. It's Just a Jump to the Left: The Unauthorized Guide to Occult Symbolism in the Rocky Horror Picture Show , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 128min
It's Just a Jump to the Left: The Unauthorized Guide to Occult Symbolism in The Rocky Horror Picture Show breaks down the occult symbolism hidden in the cult classic film known as The Rocky Horror Picture Show. If you're a life-long fan of this tale, than I can't advise you enough to listen to this book, because it will change your entire outlook of this film! Have you ever considered that this film is shown as an annual ritual during the pagan sacrifice period known as Samhain? Perhaps there is more than most people realize with this film and its message of Baphomet androgyny, transhumanism, and the evolution of consciousness that seeks to steer all of mankind down the path of the Luciferian doctrine. Prepare to take a journey into the hidden realm of the occult as your host, Isaac Weishaupt, explores the vast conspiracy that is cleverly hidden in this beloved cult classic of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The annual rituals on the pagan holiday of Samhain draw its viewers into a world of sex magick and Luciferian doctrine through the Time Warp dance and virgin sacrifices. Learn how Brad, Janet, Riff Raff, and Frank N Furter all play a part in this age-old belief in the perfected form of mankind. Frank N Furter is the "sweet transvestite" that seeks to draw in the Prometheus in a hidden play on Luciferian doctrine that many aren't able to see. Aleister Crowley's Aeon of Horus and channeling of the alien LAM are a bit too close to home in this tale of pansexual aliens from Transsexual Transylvania. Vampires of the Qlippoth are attempting to cross the Da'ath side of the life force while conducting the Time Warp Dionysian ritual. Why do we see the lightning bolt so often in the film? Could it be the fallen angel of Lucifer "falling like lightning" from the heavens? Learn all about the hidden occult symbolism in this classic film with your host, independent researcher and author ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Isaac Weishaupt.
