Twenty-three-year-old Josef Špacek ranks among the foremost representatives of today's young Czech violin generation. Sebastian See-Schierenberg-Violin Alfredo Oygez-Piano

Sebastian See-Schierenbert, a British violinist of Chinese and German descent, grew up in a family of artists and musicians. Sebastian first discovered his love of the violin at the age of 6 and commenced his studies soon after, giving his first public performance at the age of 9. Thereafter he performed widely throughout the UK. He was awarded a Scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London at the age of 16, where he studied with Professor Itzhak Rashkovsky. There he won a number of prestigious prizes and on graduating gave his Southbank recital debut. Sebastian followed further studies in Germany with Professor Valery Klimov and also at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Russia with Professor Maya Glissarova. On returning to the UK, Sebastian started coming to the attention of eminent musicians such as Tadaaki Otaka, Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra, who at a competition in the UK described Sebastian's playing as 'So beautiful. So, so sweet', and awarded him the First Prize. Others like violinists Igor Oistrakh and Rodney Friend were likewise impressed, and soon after, he embarked on an extensive musical journey which would take him to many countries in Europe, America and Asia. Sebastian has held teaching posts at the Trinity College of Music London, the Lisbon Orchestral Academy and the Malaysian Philharmonic Music Chambers. He is regularly invited by leading universities and schools throughout Asia to give masterclasses and recitals. Pianist Alfredo Oyaguez, is a graduate of Yale University, where he earned a Master of Music degree, studying piano with Professor Boris Berman. He also completed a Master of Music degree in Conducting with Professor Heiichiro Ohyama, as well as later studying piano performance with Professor Paul Berkowitz at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He was the Associate Conductor and General Manager of the UCSB Symphony Orchestra and Opera Theater, and a Lecturer for the Conducting Department at the UCSB Department of Music. He was also a member of the ensemble for contemporary music for 5 years as a pianist and conductor. Alfredo has performed extensively in Europe and the United States as a soloist, recitalist, chamber music pianist and Vocal accompanist recording for the Spanish National Radio, Radio France, Polish Radio and Television, KDB, Santa Barbara, California and The Danish National Radio P2. Alfredo lives in Mallorca and Copenhagen. He is on the Faculty of the Palma Conservatory of Music in Spain, and serves as the Artistic Director of the Deià International Music Festival and the Director and Founding member of the Camerata Deià. He is also a faculty member of the Adriatic Chamber Music Festival in Italy. With his 2 CD album 'Klassische Gitarre 2' (2013) the German guitarist Arne Willems presents works from the renaissance up to the 20th century. Disc 1 - classical music for guitar. Works by J. Dowland S. L. Weiss,M. M. Ponce, A. Barrios, and C. Franck This recording is a leading example of the art of guitar playing in the 21st century. Arne Willems´s playing is effortless and always dedicated to the music. His interpretations are based on his studies in music at the prestigious Musikhochschule Cologne and Dusseldorf in Germany. Because of that this recording definitely has a high cultural value. CD1 contains one beautiful duo piece, featuring guitarist Chih-Hsien Tseng from Taiwan. Disc 2: guitar and vocals. The British composer and lutenist John Dowland (1591-1641) wrote the most famouse songs of his time. Three of his songs are a special addition to this fine two CD set. The music by Dowland was not written for the guitar originally. It was necessary to transpose the lute tabulature to the classical guitar. Arne Willems primarily focused on music but also transposed the pieces as close as possible to the original. To maintain a sound that is similar to the lute sound he used strings, that have a higher tension and can bring a brighter sound to the beautiful pieces. Music for Piano

"Music for Piano" Notes: Peter Jancewicz became a composer after an injury to his hands forced him to stop playing piano for several years. After composing some music for students and since his hands were recovering, he decided to write music for his own performances. "Music for Piano" is a collection of favourite pieces composed since 2005 Evening Rain (2005) was the first successful advanced piece I composed. It is inspired by a lovely poem by Carlo Toselli, from a collection called "What is Time?". I stumbled across this poem because my wife Susan, also a piano teacher, taught Mr. Toselli's grandchildren, Domenic, Chiara and Francis Toselli. The book was given as a gift to Susan by the family, and I immediately fell in love with the poetry. An unusual feature of his poetry is that he has written it all in three languages: Italian, French and English. Fantaisie (2012) was inspired by and dedicated to a former teacher of mine, Jean-Paul Sevilla. As head of Academy Piano at MRU, I had invited Jean-Paul to come and give some masterclasses for our advanced students. One evening, after a busy day of music making, we were at dinner and he told me that he had always wanted to write variations on Purcell's aria, "If Love's a sweet passion, why does it torment?" from the Fairy Queen. He then suggested that I try it. I listened to the theme, but decided that I didn't really want to write variations on it. While he was visiting, though, I started playing with some other ideas for a new piece, and somehow fragments of the Purcell kept sneaking their way in. So, surrendering to the inevitable, I decided to write a fantasy using elements of the Purcell aria as a base. One can hear a direct quote from the theme near the end, although re-harmonized in way that most likely would have startled and perhaps dismayed Purcell. Three Haiku (2007) A haiku is a traditional Japanese poem. It consists of three lines with a total of seventeen syllables. The first contains five syllables, the second has seven and the third five again. They usually have an allusion to nature and the seasons. Three Haiku was inspired by the poetry of Inge Israel and dedicated to my former teacher, Helmut Brauss and his wife Kuniko. Susan and I were invited to dinner at their home in Victoria where we met Inge and her husband Werner. She was kind enough to give me a book of her poetry, which I read with delight. I loved the concise precision of the haiku form, and I found Inge's images captivating. The titles for the three pieces are my own, taken from the poetry: Ice Crystals, The Heron and Spider's Web. She has also written several other books of poetry which I highly recommend. To Quiet Lands (2008) was written for my mother, Elise Marie Therese van der Leeuw. I put her maiden name in here because she was intensely proud of being both Dutch and a van der Leeuw. At the time I was composing the piece, she was in the later stages of Alzheimer's disease and fading fast. For inspiration, I visited a website posted by Walter Aue (see below) and came across his translation of Waldlied (Forest Song) by Nicolas Lenau. Walter was also kind enough to give me permission to use his lovely photograph, "Leaves and Waves" for the cover of this CD. The poem suited my mood exactly, and I was inspired to write the piece. I gave the premiere in a recital at Leacock Theatre, Mount Royal University, Calgary four days before she died, February 13, 2008. I like to think that she was waiting for me to play it before she left. Beyond darkness, there lies light (2009) was written immediately following the death of my brother, Thom, on January 9, 2009. It was the day before his 50th birthday, and he inexplicably took his own life. As is often the case with suicide, nobody has any idea why he did it, although he struggled with bi-polar depression all his life. The title was paraphrased from a film, "Brick Lane". A young Bangladeshi woman is trapped in a loveless and apparently hopeless marriage in London, far away from home and her family. In a moment of desperation, she prays, "Beyond this darkness, let there be light." In Memoriam (2011) Dedicated to both my parents, Elise Marie and Wlodzimierz Karol Jancewicz. My father died in August 2011, the last of my immediate family. I had spoken with him the afternoon of his death from Johnson's Canyon, near Banff, where I was vacationing with Susan, my sister-in-law Gayle, and Grant and Ellaina, my brother Thom's children. He sounded fine on the phone. We returned that evening, and the phone rang during a big thunder and hail storm. It was the nursing home informing me that my father was on the way to the hospital. When we got to the hospital, we were informed that he had passed away. He was old and ill, and I believe more than ready to go, but it was still difficult for all of us. On the positive side, I think he generally had a good life, despite his continued struggles with bi-polar depression. Those with sharp ears will hear the "Dies irae" theme played in several guises. ...like the night of starry skies... (2012) After writing a series of pieces dealing with death and grief, my wife Susan thought it was time for me to write something in another vein. I agreed, and set out to write a beautiful piece. It was inspired by a lovely romantic poem by Lord Byron, and dedicated to Susan. Baetica Variations (2008) was written for and dedicated to my wife Susan. It is a set of variations written on the theme of the intermezzo from Manuel de Falla's Fantasia Baetica (1919). It was commissioned by and dedicated to Artur Rubinstein. I wrote the variations on a suggestion by Susan, and since her hands are small for a pianist, she requested that there be no large stretches in the piece. Susan asked me to write it without articulation markings to see if we felt the same way about the piece. We did. She also played some of the fast variations faster than I thought necessary. I came around to her way of thinking. "Provincia Baetica"is the old Roman name for the area along the Mediterranean in southern Spain known as Andalusia. Fans of Spanish music with sharp ears will notice a quote in one of the variations: the "Chanson du Feu Follet" from Falla's "El Amor Brujo".

Unearthly Music

Praised for her virtuosic skill and evocative musicality, Australian based flautist Kathryn Moorhead enjoys a diverse career as a soloist, chamber artist, and orchestral performer. She has received Master of Music degrees from the University of Melbourne Conservatorium and Brabants Conservatorium in Holland. Scholarships from the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust and the Ian Potter Foundation enabled her to study at the Amsterdam Conservatory and Lulea University in Sweden, taking lessons and masterclasses from Harrie Starreveld, Leon Berendse, Andreas Blau, Emmanuel Pahud and Goran Marcusson. Kathryn has performed with the Melbourne, Adelaide, Tasmanian and the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, the Adelaide Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria. She has performed in guest Principal positions with the Queensland Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonia and the Malaysian Philhamonic Orchestra, as well as appearing with ensembles in International Arts Festivals in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Aberdeen, and London. Kathryn has won prizes in the Leslie Barklamb Flute Competition and the Australian International Solo Flute Competition. Her CD 'Unearthly Music' for flute and piano has received frequent airplay on ABC Classic FM, Radio National Australia, and radio stations across the USA and Asia. Kathryn currently freelances with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, the Miscellany Ensemble, and is completing a PhD in Music at the University of Adelaide, Australia. Claire Cooper studied with John Winther at the Canberra School of Music, and later at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. She spent five years as repetiteur and accompanist for the Victorian College of the Arts and is currently a member of staff at the Faculty of Music, University of Melbourne as an accompanist. Claire has worked extensively in Melbourne with major music organisations and festivals, and has an extensive and wide-ranging repertoire. David Solis Olson, guitar A finalist and semi-finalist in several international guitar competitions, most notably, the 2002 Music Teachers National Association Solo Competition and the 1994 National Solo Competition of the American String Teachers Association in Cincinnati, Ohio, David Solis Olson is considered to be among the finest classical guitarists of his generation. Mr. Olson has appeared as solo and chamber recitalist in concerts and festivals throughout the United States and in Canada, France and Germany. He has performed at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in New York City and in Eastman Theater in Rochester, New York. Mr. Olson began guitar study at age twelve and has been the recipient of numerous scholarships and accolades. These include: the Performer's Certificate and the George Eastman Merit Scholarship from the Eastman School of Music, and the John G. Welch Scholarship for demonstration of "unusual talent and self-discipline" and the Chancellor's Award of Excellence from the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem. Mr. Olson has performed in masterclasses for such classical guitar luminaries as Roland Dyens, Angel Romero, Manuel Barrueco and David Russell and his primary teachers include Nicholas Goluses, Ricardo Cobo and James Ryan. This new recording presents the complete guitar works of Llobet, who himself was a virtuoso on his instrument, as shown in the complex and innovative writing. Barcelona-born Miguel Llobet once played for the Spanish royal family in the early 20th century. Credited with beginning the notion of a touring classical guitarist, Llobet travelled throughout Europe and beyond, briefly settling in both Paris and Buenos Aires. He later returned to Barcelona, unable to distance himself from his birthplace despite the grip of the civil war in which the city found itself.This collection brings together Llobet's complete works for guitar, beginning with Leonesa and his popular arrangements of 13 Catalan folk songs. These arrangements, each of a varying character, wring a different emotion from the guitar, from the sprightly L'Hereu Riera and lilting El Noi de la Mare to the flourishes of Canço de Lladre and the mournful El Testament d'Amelia. The Variations on a Theme of Sor, based on Fernando Sor's B minor study, contrast a haunting melody with complex articulation.
