Climate Matters: Ethics in a Warming World , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 354min
A vital new moral perspective on the climate change debate. Esteemed philosopher John Broome avoids the familiar ideological stances on climate change policy and examines the issue through an invigorating new lens. As he considers the moral dimensions of climate change, he reasons clearly through what universal standards of goodness and justice require of us, both as citizens and as governments. His conclusions - some as demanding as they are logical - will challenge and enlighten. Eco-conscious listeners may be surprised to hear they have a duty to offset all their carbon emissions, while policy makers will grapple with Broome’s analysis of what if anything is owed to future generations. From the science of greenhouse gases to the intricate logic of cap and trade, Broome reveals how the principles that underlie everyday decision making also provide simple and effective ideas for confronting climate change. Climate Matters is an essential contribution to one of the paramount issues of our time. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Mike Murray. The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 419min
Hannah Whitall Smith originally wrote The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life in 1875 as an article for her husband's inspirational magazine. The book subsequently became a worldwide best seller that has influenced generations. Smith describes her book with these words: "I do not want to change the theological views of a single individual. The truths I have to tell are not theological, but practical. They are, I believe, the fundamental truths of life and experience, the truths that underlie all theologies, and that are in fact their real and vital meaning. They will fit in with every creed, simply making it possible for those who hold the creed to live up to their own beliefs, and to find in them the experimental realities of a present Savior and a present salvation. "Most of us acknowledge that there is behind all religions an absolute religion, that holds the vital truth of each; and it is of this absolute religion my book seeks to treat." ungekürzt. Dynamism of the rubber industry and food insecurity in rural areas of CI
At the end of the study we conducted on the theme of "rubber plantation dynamism and food insecurity: the case of Nouvel Ousrou in the department of Dabou", we have now reached the assessment stage. For a long time dominated by cassava and oil palm crops, Nouvel Ousrou is now characterized by the emergence of rubber cultivation to the point where this cash crop occupies first place among export crops (SAPH, 2006). This has led us to question the interest in rubber production to the detriment of cassava production. Through this study, we sought to analyze the socio-economic determinants of cultural change that underlie the development of rubber tree cultivation to the detriment of other crops, particularly cassava, which are considered to be equally useful in the food supply and the social representations of the people of Nouvel Ousrou.- Shop: buecher

Statistical Physics of Fields
While many scientists are familiar with fractals, fewer are familiar with scale-invariance and universality which underlie the ubiquity of their shapes. These properties may emerge from the collective behaviour of simple fundamental constituents, and are studied using statistical field theories. Initial chapters connect the particulate perspective developed in the companion volume, to the coarse grained statistical fields studied here. Based on lectures taught by Professor Kardar at MIT, this textbook demonstrates how such theories are formulated and studied. Perturbation theory, exact solutions, renormalization groups, and other tools are employed to demonstrate the emergence of scale invariance and universality, and the non-equilibrium dynamics of interfaces and directed paths in random media are discussed. Ideal for advanced graduate courses in statistical physics, it contains an integrated set of problems, with solutions to selected problems at the end of the book and a complete set available to lecturers at www.cambridge.org/9780521873413.- Shop: buecher

Winners and Losers (eBook, PDF)
First published in 1994, Winners and Losers is based upon a two-year study carried out in Manchester. Using a wealth of research material gathered from 1000 respondents from seven ethnic minority groups, it details the social, cultural, and religious priorities of these groups, and through this, their involvement with sport and physical recreation. A major theme of the book is that all those involved in the promotion of sport and recreation facilities in whatever context should recognise that ethnic minority groups are different, and their differences need to be understood, respected and accepted. It is important for the providers and the ethnic minority groups to learn about each other and understand the motives which underlie each other's responses and recognise the limitations which define the boundaries of the possible for both sides. This book is a must read for scholars and researchers of education, and multiculturalism.- Shop: buecher

Discovering My Scars is a moving account of a young woman’s struggle with unexplained depression that leads her to cope with self-injury. One dramatic day in her college dorm, self-injury lands her in the surreal world of a psych ward for 74 hours. Within Discovering My Scars, Stephanie Kostopoulos makes herself vulnerable and invites listeners into her reality with raw and visceral depictions of non-suicidal self-injury. The journey encapsulates life during her 20s, while stepping back to childhood, revealing abuse that explains the events of her young adult life.
