The agenda: nine powerful and practical business ideas for today's world of fierce competitors and even fiercer customers. These are tough times for business. The old solutions don't work anymore, and the silver bullets of the late 1990s have proven to be hollow. Serious business people know there is no simple solution, no single answer. They need a whole tool kit of new ideas and new techniques. That's what The Agenda delivers. Michael Hammer, author of Reengineering the Corporation, the defining business book of the 1990s, has uncovered the secrets of today's best companies. He has worked long and hard to identify how these companies consistently outexecute their competitors, and he reveals what he has learned in The Agenda. Make life easy for your customers. Your customers' biggest gripe is not that your products are bad, but that it is too tough to order, receive, and pay for them. In short, you are a royal pain to do business with. You need to take a hard look at how you operate from your customers' point of view. In other words, run your business for their convenience, not yours. Link companies together through the Internet. Break down the walls that separate you from other companies, walls that create huge amounts of inefficiency and overhead. Change your distribution channel from a series of resellers into a community that works together to serve the final customer. Redesign your operations in tandem with those of your suppliers and customers. Stop seeing yourself as a self-contained unit that creates a product on its own, and get used to the idea of virtually integrating with others. The Agenda will forever change the way you think about business. Language: English. Narrator: Michael Hammer. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/rand/000155/bk_rand_000155_sample.mp3. In this comical business novel, The Non-Product Consolidation Operation is a department of Generic Equivalent Corporation (GenEQ), a multinational pharmaceutical manufacturer. Myrtle, Rachel, Naomi, Ralph, and Lawrence, the manager, package and ship to the company's overseas plants anything other than sellable products.Managed into total inefficiency by Lawrence, who is dedicated to his useless statistics, the crew spends much of its time hunting for lost packages and reading confidential company mail. A clever, acerbic Myrtle reads aloud to Ralph, who translates corporate clichés into plain English. Myrtle then spreads the news of company intrigues to coworkers during coffee breaks. Ralph, once a successful corporate executive, has simply given it up for the simple life. Now, he packs small packages of toothpaste, videos, and bowling balls into larger ones for export. Naomi, a bright and ambitious single mother, and Rachel, a timid, mousey woman, do the best they can under the circumstancesMyrtle learns of an impending merger, and the staff is nervous about who will be labeled redundant. A running account of Lawrence's shipment of juicy, fruit-flavored tongue depressors breaks the tension, as the material, intended to go to Israel, bounces from port to port throughout the Middle East, helped along by con man agent Frederick. Lawrence hides the growing expenses in the finance department's budget as the shipment arrives at an embargoed country. While Lawrence is out of town, the vice president of finance Ron Jackson is sent by President Andy Foster to determine the organization's post-merger fate. Ron discovers the contraband package, but fails to notice the savings generated by Naomi in Lawrence's absence. Consequently, the Non-Product Consolidation Operation is scheduled to be eliminated. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Tom Bauer. Learn all you need to know about lean six sigma!Lean six sigma is a combination of two popular continuous improvement methods - lean and six sigma that pave the way for operational excellence. These time-tested approaches provide organizations with a clear path for achieving their missions as quickly and efficiently as possible. Before defining lean six sigma in more detail, it’s important to clarify the concept of process improvement. Since lean six sigma is a system for analyzing and improving processes, we’ll break down those terms first. What is a process?A process is a series of steps involved in building a product or delivering a service. Almost everything we do is a process - tying our shoes, baking a cake, treating a cancer patient, or manufacturing a cell phone. What is process improvement?Process improvement requires employees to better understand the current state of how a process functions in order to remove the barriers to serving customers. Since each product or service is the result of a process, gaining the skills required to remove waste, rework or inefficiency is critical for the growth of an organization.Working on a process vs in a process Employees are hired based on their expertise in a given field. Bakers are good at baking, and surgeons are good at performing surgery. Professionals are experts at working in a process, but they are not necessarily experts at working on a process. Learning to work on and improve processes require experience and education in continuous improvement. That’s where lean six sigma comes in.Combining lean and six sigmaLean six sigma provides a systematic approach and a combined toolkit to help employees build their problem-solving muscles. Both lean and six sigma are based on a scientific method, and together, they support organizations looking to build a problem-solving culture. This means that “finding a better w ungekürzt. Other People’s Money and How the Bankers Use It is a collection of essays by Louis D. Brandeis that first appeared in Harper’s Weekly between November 22, 1913 and January 17, 1914 and published in book form in 1914. Other People’s Money takes to task the small cadre of investment bankers led by J.P. Morgan & Co. and known as the “Money Trust”, who would treat an ordinary person’s money on deposit as their own to use to control the banks, trusts, life insurance companies, and public service and industrial corporations that dominated American business. Brandeis marshaled an exhaustive amount of detailed research to describe the exact extent of the holdings, the interlocking directorships, the interdependence and the resulting degree of control. In doing so he exposes the principles and practices that stifle competition and lead to self-dealing and excessive enrichment. He explains clearly how they inhibit creativity and progress, foster inefficiency, and go against the grain of fundamental ideas of liberty crucial to America’s identity. His book is a warning and an analysis of the dangers to society when a small percentage of people control the yeoman’s portion of the wealth. The consolidation of production and distribution in too few hands is a recipe for oligarchy, and no republic or democracy can thrive when it allows for such an entitled, favored, exempt and all but immune aristocracy whose bloodlines are bank accounts and whose manners are defined solely by what the markets allow. His warnings reverberate eerily today in light of the practices that so damaged the American economy in 2008. At times one feels that nothing much has changed except the decimal points in the numbers. Viewed in this light, Brandeis’ writing has never been more relevant, more prophetic, or more on-point. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: D S Harvey. The greatest threat to an organization's success is not always the competition. Often, it is what a company does to itself. Because of fear, companies become plagued with barriers and bureaucracy that limit success, crush employees, and infuse frustration and a sense of futility across the enterprise. It starts with a narrowing of focus, which leads to the first level of bureaucracy: parochialism. Parochialism exists when managers and departments begin to view the world through the filter of their own little silo and build walls made of rules and policies to protect their turf. As businesses grow and become more complex, the second level of bureaucracy is reached: territorialism. While parochialism is about protecting a department from outsiders, territorialism is about controlling those inside the silo. The third and final level of bureaucracy is empire building, which is a response to perceived threats to a department's ability to be self-sufficient. These barriers cost organizations a fortune in inefficiency, turnover, waste, and demoralization. Tearing down these barriers is difficult, but it can be done. Parochialism can be eliminated by resetting rules and policies and refocusing on the ultimate mission of the organization. Territorialism can be eliminated by creating true empowerment, along with appropriate levels of accountability. Empire building can be addressed through shared goals and a set of guiding principles that help act as a referee in decision making. But that's not enough. Managers must also create a culture of courage to enable employees to take advantage of these new freedoms and accountabilities. Courage killers must be rooted out and dealt with swiftly and strongly. Finally, leaders must refocus on mission success rather than just checking off their part of the process, manage reference points, and engage employees. By doing all these things, an organization can become fearless and unstoppable. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Mel Foster.
