Diana Nuñez Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, I moved at the age of nineteen to Mexico City where I started singing professionally with the Carlos Beltran Orchestra. There I met a group of Swedish musicians, the Gimmicks, who asked me to join their group. I said yes, travelled to Sweden with them and have been a Swedish resident since then. For five years I sang and travelled around the world with this group. It was a great group with quality musicians who became like my family away from home. Especially the co-singer, Anita Strandell, whom I still work together with at times! (Our latest collaboration is the CD album 'Tropical Touch', recorded in 2004 for Gazell Records). The Gimmicks recorded several albums from. In 1998 the CD collection album 'The best of the Gimmicks from Acapulco to Tokyo' was released by Sonet Records. After The Gimmicks, Anita Strandell and I continued on and formed a trio call Tre Damer with Inger Öst. This group became a huge success and for five intense years we received critical acclaim for performances and shows in night clubs, concert halls, festivals and TV, often collaborating with some of Swedens best lyricists, artists and musicians. Our most fruitful collaboration and the one people still remember us for, was with Swedens most well loved artist/poet/troubador, the late Cornelis Vreeswijk. This period in my career is what made it possible for me to really penetrate the Swedish music culture and language. It was a time of musical and artistical schooling. Another learning period for me was when I started doing work as a back-up vocalist. Here I have to thank my parents for giving me music lessons, since reading music is a must for this kind of work. During these years I did back-up work for both studio recordings, television/radio shows as well as concerts. I think the highlight of this period is when I was part of the back-up vocalists in the orchestra for a TV show where Tina Turner was a guest! Unforgettable! A close second is the 8-year gig I did with one of Swedens most popular female artists, Lill Lindfors. Every autumn, spring and summer ´86 through ´94 I was part of her orchestra. A wonderful time of memorable concerts and lots of traveling all around Scandinavia and even the USA. This period is pivotal in my life. I married Lars Beijbom, who is also my greatest music companion through my life thus far. We formed the group Bright Orange with some of the best musicians around Stockholm at the time and it turned out to be the most powerful musical experience I´ve ever had. A fusion of pop, rock and jazz with all songs composed by Lars, we recorded an album called, 'The Goose is Out' for Innovative Communications in 1983 and toured Germany. Bright Orange lasted until half the band started building families. Our own son, Daniel, was born in November of ´84. In January of ´86 I left Stockholm after fifteen intense years. With my husband and baby we moved to the little 'metropolis' in the south of Sweden called Lund. Despite leaving the music capitol that Stockholm is, as two well established names in music, we have never regretted the move. We've been lucky to initiate lots of new and great music collaborations here in the part of Sweden called Skåne. After a few years where I prioritized motherhood, Anita Strandell and I revived the trio Tre Damer, but this time with singer Mia Adolphson. We did mostly parties and conference entertainment as well as an occasional TV show or small tour. But in 1995, we did a project that will stand out in my memory as a favorite. The idea of singing with a brass band emerged and our arranger, Lars Beijbom, started writing for three voices and a brass quintet! Together with Mia´s dream to sing Duke Ellingtons music, we decided to do a tribute to Duke and his music. With the 'Cornova Brass', Lars on drums and Tre Damer, we toured with this concert program for three years. The project culminated with a recording of the CD album entitled 'Duke, we love you madly' released in 1999, honoring Duke Ellingtons 100th birthday. We topped it all off with a concert at the Swedish Cultural Center in Paris! My voice had up to now been the tool that enabled me to work with music. But in 1998 dance and drums came into my life and it was the thing that integrated all the facets of music for me...voice, movement and rhythm. It started with a weekend workshop in Creative Dance. I had so far in my life stood behind a microphone and felt the movement and rhythm in the music, but expressed it with my voice. Creative Dance was liberating and I knew that it would always be a part of my life. I completed a leadership course in Creative Dance at the Frigörande Dans Akademin in Dalarna, Sweden. Shortly after that I was introduced to West African rhythms. I started playing the djembe and Malinke bass drums first and after a year or so I started dancing. Since then I have studied for both the accomplished Swedish drum teacher Fabian Hildebrand and the Djembe Master, Famoudou Konate from Guinea. I travelled to Senegal in 2001 and Mali in 2007 to play and dance. Together with two other women, Helen Melin and Lena Jungmark, we lead courses and workshops in West African Rhythms. The Beijbom Kroner Big Band is band that my husband, Lars Beijbom, started back in 1994 together with his danish colleague, trombone player Erling Kronor. They were asked to be part of a project called 'Music Around', sponsored by cultural organizations from both sides of the Sound between the south of Sweden and Denmark. They asked me to be the vocal soloist for their program, 'Latin Express', knowing my fondness for Brazilian music. Together with another soloist, the world renowned bandoneon player, Marcelo Nisinman from Argentina, we performed concerts and festivals during this period. Besides Brazilian songs I also sang original music of both Lars and Erling, as well as Argentinian Tangos, something totally new to me....something I hope to explore more of in the future. A live CD was recorded and released in 2004, 'Tango for Bad People'. My long time colleague, Anita Strandell, was approached by Gazell Records in Stockholm and was asked to revive the sound of The Gimmicks from back in the 70´s. She and I asked Lars Beijbom to arrange and produce the recording which documented for us more than thirty years of singing together. For this CD we chose both Brazilian, American and Swedish music, including a couple of original songs by Lars. We called this collaboration 'Tropical Touch'. The group Andetag started out as a combination of singing and meditating. We are four women, Inger Ohlén Reingold, Helen Melin, Lena Jungmark and myself, who get together and let our voices express whatever is in the moment. We have developed into a unit where our voices function as finely tuned instruments with improvisation as the cornerstone, although we also sing songs and psalms. Our concept can be described as voices, meditation and concert. We have since September of 2007 'performed' in various churches in the south of Sweden . It is a unique opportunity for the listener to either participate or just be in the moment with us....magical! We have recently released our first CD, 'Valv'. (Trans. 'Archway') After many years of working together with countless musicians, singers and producers, my husband, Lars Beijbom and I started writing, arranging and recording our first joint venture, the CD Circular Songs. With Lars programming and recording all instruments and myself singing all voices, we manifested our vision to compose and record songs which move round and round as they expand. Songs where lyrics take second place to sounds, colors, orchestrations, textures etc. All with an on-going theme that can be described as lyrical/rhythmical, yin/yang, sun/moon, day/night, in/out and so on....the pulse of life. Lars Beijbom Lars is from Sweden. Early musical influenses include jazzgreats Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Art Blakey as well as pop and pop/soul

English Almas Buenas (Good Souls) is the fruit of a months work in Buenos Aires by Drongomala working with some of the cities finest tango, folklore and jazz artists. The project sees the group playing new latin arrangements of Drongomala songs from his back catalogue which spans work in India, Greece, UK and the US. Pre-Production: The project was ambitious from the start. Prior to a 2 month trip around Latin America Drongomala had 11 candidate songs translated by reknowed translator Paula Tizzano. After travelling through Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile tuning his ears, heart and mind to Latin America and a Spanish speaking culture Drongomala settled in the Almagro district in Buenos Aires. The choice for Almagro was two-fold, that it was the spiritual home (Barrio) of tango and that it contained a legendary boxing club. Drongomala started a routine of boxing training for 2 hours every morning and began the search for musicians to collaborate with. Quite soon into the stay he was introudced to Jorge Soldera who after a few meetings became the holistic mentaur of the project. Jorge committed to finding the musicians and working on the songs in pre-production to give the arrangements a latin slant. Drongomala and Jorge worked intensely for the month leading up to recording. Rehearsals: Drongomala had the luck to get legendary international tango players such as Carlos Corrales and Juan Pablo Navarro as well as Argentinian luminaries and rising stars like Matias Chapiro (acoustic piano), Victor Piseta (Spanish guitar) and Jorge Savelon (percusion/drums). A special arrangement for Exploto Trato Day Ser Alguien was written by Carlos Corrales for Bandoneon. Recording + Mixing : Recording was undertaken in the famous live room of Moevius Studios. Moevius is well known in Latin America for it's specialisation in Tango and acoustic recordings. The recordings were all played and sung live over a period of 3 days. Most songs were captured within 2 takes to retain an edge of excitement. Once recorded the mixes were undertaken by Oscar Magariños who engineered the project. Oscar Magariños is a renowned engineer who started his career in Argentina at the time of analog recordings in cinta. He had worked at the most important recording studies and he is a specialist in acoustic takes. Among the most important artists who entrusted their recording and mixing we can mention: Rubén Rada, Osvaldo Fatoruzo, Estela Raval, Los Nocheros, Miguel Abuelo, Oscar Kreimer, y Mario Parmisano among others. ABOUT Moebio: Moebio is one of the best and finest studio rooms in Argentina specially designed by Carlos Piriz, acoustic engineer recognized throughout Latin America as an ideal for recording acoustic projects. In this room have recorded the greatest artists of recent times, including Mercedes Sosa, the guitarist and composer Juan Falu, the guitarist Luis Salinas, the violinist, composer and conductor Antonio Agri, Soda Stereo, Fito Paez, Luis Alberto Spinetta, La Camerata Bariloche, there was recorded the historic album '200 Years of Argentina Music' by the Salta Symphony Orchestra, and many other orchestras, because the audio quality obtained in this room is discussed by many to be insurmountable. Artwork: Juxtaposing the classic nature of the instrumentation Drongomala chose a rising Graphic Novel/Comic artist, Sergio Carrera, to undertake the artwork for the record. He became aware of Sergio through an iPhone graphic novel entitled ´T

Little Suite for Autumn (1979) by Peter Schickele (1935- ) 16. Oblivion (1982) with Kevin Zakresky, piano by Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) * World Premier Recording Of the approximately 50 duos that Ignace Pleyel (1757-1831) wrote, Grand Duo No. 1 in C Major, Op. 69 expresses his typical good humor and inventiveness. Pleyel, a very successful composer, was considered one of the most popular and prolific in his time, with his works even performed in America. The 24th son of 38 children of an impoverished Austrian schoolmaster, Pleyel studied with Joseph Haydn and became the organist at the Strasbourg Cathedral. In 1791, when the French Revolution closed his post as organist, Pleyel moved to London where he directed rival concerts to those led by Haydn. In 1795 Pleyel moved to Paris where he founded a highly successful music-publishing house and the Pleyel Piano Company. Three Rags for Violin and Viola was written in 1996 by New York City native William Ryden (b.1939). A well known composer, arranger, conductor and pianist, Ryden has written concertos, chamber music, musicals and over 250 rags for solo piano. This duo, recorded here for the first time, captures the quintessential feeling of ragtime in rhythm and melody. Duo for Violin and Viola was commissioned by the Classic Strings Duo and premiered in May 2009. Written by Martha Craig (b.1978) of Virginia, this duo incorporates several different styles of music including tango and jazz. It is an entertaining piece with the two instruments dancing their way through the melodies and pizzicato passages. Duo No. 2 in F Major comes from Three Duos WoO 27 by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) and was written in 1792 for the principal clarinet and bassoon players in the orchestra at the court in Bonn, Germany. As with most of his salon music, Beethoven did not assign an opus number to these stunning duos, which have been transcribed for violin and viola. Until recently, the early, unpublished works of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) were entirely unknown. In 1982 the Sibelius family donated all his manuscripts to the University of Helsinki library. This allowed scholars to catalog and publish numerous works that Sibelius had written in his youth. The warm and lyrical Duo in C Major dates from 1891-1892 and reflects Sibelius' love of nature and his native Finland, with hints of the violin concerto to come. American composer Peter Schickele (b.1935) often stayed with his friends, Gil and Mary Stott, while visiting his alma mater, Swarthmore College. In October 1979, Schickele wrote Little Suite for Autumn as a thank you note for them since they played violin and viola. This duo has five short movements and is very programmatic, incorporating sounds of autumn such as rustling tree branches and leaves swirling in the wind. Born in Argentina to Italian parents, Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) moved to New York City with his family while still a child. There he was exposed to both jazz and classical music. At age eight his father gave him a bandoneon, a type of concertina popular in Argentina, and Piazzolla became quite a virtuoso on it. In his compositions, he merged the structure of sophisticated music with the passion of the tango. Oblivion, one of his most popular tangos, became widely known through the soundtrack of Mario Bellocchio's film, Enrico IV (1984). This piece was arranged for piano trio by José Bragato, the cellist in several of Piazzolla's ensembles. Kevin and Bryan Matheson - The Classic Strings Duo &nbsp, "The brothers created an agreeably old-timey sound and presented very stylishly, with real flourish and attention to detail." -- Jeffrey James, Editor and International Composer, New York City &nbsp, Kevin and Bryan were received with critical acclaim at their Carnegie Weill Recital Hall début as part of the Ibla Grand Prize competition winners' tour. The duo has been recognized for it's mesmerizing and spirited performances - two perfect virtuosos, playing as one. Kevin and Bryan are passionate about performing and promoting works featuring the violin-viola duo and enjoy working with composers to broaden the repertoire. &nbsp, As founding members of the Rainier Trio and Saturn String Ensemble, they have been heard in frequent concerts, on the trio's first CD, the premier recording of Matthew Barbre's String Quartet No. 1 and with opera singers at the Vocal Arts and Music Festival. Kevin and Bryan have performed as guest soloists with the Irish Sinfonietta Orchestra in New York City, and for nine seasons have been concertmaster and principal violist of the Viva Vivaldi Chamber Orchestra, which has recorded for Centaur Records. They have performed in the Ameropa International Chamber Music Festival in Prague and were concertmaster and principal violist of the festival orchestra. For eight seasons Kevin and Bryan served as concertmaster and principal violist in the RMA Chamber Orchestra. As frequent soloists with the orchestra, they performed numerous concerts in the southeastern United States and in Ireland, including performing in the prestigious West Cork Chamber Music Festival and on radio, twice for former Virginia Governor Mark Warner and on the orchestra's first CD. The orchestra gave the world premier performance of Richard Ratner's Andante for Strings at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage in a joint performance with musicians from Hong Kong and Macao. &nbsp, The Classic Strings Duo and Rainier Trio receive funding from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and are listed in the Performing Arts Tour Directory. Gabriela is a native porteña (resident of Buenos Aires) tango singer whose voice and style are rich with musical skill, sensitivity and power developed during a life-long love affair with music. She began at an early age studying classical voice and piano, moved to stylings of contemporary jazz and performances with well-known Argentine jazz musicians, and then was irresistibly drawn to the poetry and musical intricacy of tango. Singing tango has become her passion. She has performed at various Buenos Aires venues including the Teatro General San Martin, Centro Cultural de la Cooperation, Teatro Roma de Avellaneda, Academia Porteña del Lunfardo, Fundacion Jorge L. Borges, Auditorio de RA Nacional, Café Homero, and Centro Torcuato Tasso, among others. In March of 2009, Gabriela appeared by invitation at the 8th International Cumbre (Conference) del Tango in Bariloche, Argentina, singing songs from her first CD, "Otra Historia" (Another Story) released in 2005. In 2011 Gabriela released her second CD, entitled "Abretango" (Open Tango), accompanied by guitarist Hernán Reinaudo and Norberto Vogel on bandoneon. This work is an expression of the evolution of her compelling contemporary vocal style and the evolution of tango itself. It is a compilation of deeply expressive songs including previously unpublished tangos by contemporary authors as well as traditional tangos, waltzes and candombes.
