An impertinent stranger is thrown into Fitzwilliam Darcy's path and, even though he declares her tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt him, it is all he can do not to think of her. Upon first making Mr. Darcy's acquaintance, Miss Elizabeth Bennet is quite fascinated with him. Then she discovers that the gentleman is haughty and above his company, and she wants nothing to do with him. Still, the prospect of spending time in each other's company is beyond their power to resist. Will Darcy and Elizabeth stop denying the truth to themselves and find in the other what's been missing in their lives? ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Pearl Hewitt. The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin is a children's story written by Beatrix Potter and first published by Frederick Warne & Co. in August 1903.  The story is about an impertinent red squirrel named Nutkin and his narrow escape from an owl called Old Brown. The title followed Potter's hugely successful The Tale of Peter Rabbit and was an instant hit. The now-familiar endpapers of the Peter Rabbit series were introduced in the story.  Squirrel Nutkin had its origins in a story and picture letter Potter sent Norah Moore, the daughter of her former governess, Annie Carter Moore.  One commentator has likened Squirrel Nutkin's impertinent behaviour to that of the rebellious working class of Potter's own day, and another commentator has noted the tale's similarities to pourquoi tales and folk tales in its explanations of Squirrel Nutkin's short tail and characteristics of squirrel behaviour.  An abbreviated version of the tale appeared as a segment in the 1971 ballet film The Tales of Beatrix Potter. ungekürzt. In Modern Families, Joshua Gamson brings us extraordinary family creation tales - his own included - that illuminate this changing world of contemporary kinship. Combining personal memoir and ethnographic storytelling, Modern Families tells a variety of unconventional family-creation tales - adoption and assisted reproduction, gay and straight parents, coupled and single, and multi-parent families - set against the social, legal, and economic contexts in which they were made. In these stories, family creation was painstaking and sometimes difficult. Often, parts of biological reproduction took place in a different body than that of the parents raising the child; sometimes, the model of kinship was made up virtually from scratch, often in tension with legally and socially sanctioned versions of family. ungekürzt.
