Neith schützt mit ihren Attributen - Pfeil und Bogen - den kindlichen Sonnengott seit dem Uranfang und übt diese Funktion in der Folge für Götter, Könige und Menschen aus.Pfeil und Bogen nehmen in den Inschriften und Darstellungen dieses Tempels deshalb eine besondere Stellung ein, so unter anderem in dem Ritualszenentypus "Pfeil und Bogen darreichen" sowie im Ablauf der Rituale, die während des Festes am 13. Epiphi - dem für Neith zentralen Fest in Esna - durchzuführen waren. Nach einleitenden kursorischen Überblicken zur Verwendungsweise von Pfeil und Bogen im pharaonischen Ägypten sowie in der ägyptischen Religion folgt mit den Texten aus Esna, die übersetzt und eingehend kommentiert werden, der Schwerpunkt des Buches. Hinzu kommt eine Analyse ihrer Einbindung in die raumübergreifende Dekorationssystematik des Pronaos.
